Tonight, tonight,
Won't be just any night,
Tonight there will be no morning star.
Tonight, tonight, I'll see my love tonight.
And for us, stars will stop where they are.

Taking a quick Coca-Cola break. And catching up on my financial spreadsheet.
My computer's driving me crazy. I'm definitely going to try to troubleshoot this weekend.

Check it to see if Windows is installed...a lot of people have it and don't even realise. If it's on there, a switch to Mac OS is easier than you'd imagine it to be. :)

Windows is installed. XP Pro, to be precise, installed on a virtual drive used by a virtual machine courtesy of Virtual PC. :p VPC currently not running. Running OS X 10.3.9.
I am 99% sure (and willing to bet money) that it's a hardware problem. 75% sure (but not willing to bet money) that one of my pieces of RAM (two 1 GB DIMMs) is going bad. Just need to figure out which one. Shouldn't be hard... just haven't gotten around to it.

10.3.9 is my fav OS. I hate computers, though. Too bad you won't be able to scratch your back without one soon.
My favorite is recording music on 'pooters. It's amazing what you can do, even with an old machine like my box, but getting all of those bits of software working together is a beotch..and since it's combos of software, it's NO ONE'S fault as far as tech support! ......."they did it..no THEY did it....no THEY did it..." :D
Argh... it got annoying enough for me to check this afternoon for the problem. It's not the RAM. I appear to be suffering from the infamous "bulging capacitors" that some iMac G5 motherboards suffer from. (Cheap commodity parts, but evidently some manufacturer messed up a batch. I can see several of them physically bulging.) The computer's under Apple's extended warranty... so Apple should take care of it.
The problem is, I have no backup modern computer, but my consulting work demands that work continue while my computer's under repair. And security considerations mean I want to have all data related to this work encrypted and as secure physically as possible. So no borrowing of a computer. So I'll probably pick up a new MacBook (Pro?) to tide me over. That wouldn't be too bad under other circumstances, but I really wanted to buy one of the Merom-based laptops (aka Core 2 Duo, Intel's next generation processor coming out later this summer). Now I have a decision to make. Go ahead and buy myself a nice laptop even though I know Merom is right around the corner? Or buy a low end MacBook to tide me over? I could always give it away to one of my sisters when I no longer need/want it. It's far faster than any of their existing laptops, so any of them would be able to find good use for it.
Might sound complicated and unnecessary, but when you charge an order of magnitude more than what a very competent replacement would happily do the same job for, you don't make excuses. Getting the job done right (high rate of satisfaction, on time, data secure, client never knowing anything is wrong) is everything. A low end MacBook would pay for 25% of itself just in billable time, and more than the rest of itself in maintaining the track record for getting the job done right that justifies my consulting rate.
ARGH!

Went for a quick ride in the Formula. Wow that car is fast. I forgot what it was like to drive it. It's been so long. Got it up to 115 going uphill......
That was so exhilarating!!!!!!!!!!!
"the Formula"? Care to elaborate? sounds fun.

Not what you are thinking. Much lower. Firebird Formula. LT1. Too bad the hill ended before it could go faster.
I was thinking Formula Ford or something. Not necessarily any faster.

I'm listening to my MP3 player, taking a break from cleaning out my office. Dug my old PIII out, might have to see if I can get it runnin' again. Got some mobo or vid card issues from what I remember, tho.
Had a good mc ride earlier, but got caught out in a thundershower with no rain gear after leaving my wife's apartment.:( Went to O'Charley's afterward to grab some grub since I forgot to eat breakfast before I left.:o Pretty cool, actually. An off-duty firefighter bought my Killian's for me. I guess he felt sorry for me having to ride in the rain.:) He took off before I could get him back. Then, some ass comes in with his son and ran my pretty bartender off.:( He got the cheapest beer he could(Bud Light) and got huffy because the bartender gave him an frozen glass. He wanted a room temp glass so he could, get this, "taste the beer." That's only a small taste of his dicketry. What a tool!

Now go buy a fixed gear, and your stable will be complete...
...except for that sweet unicycle you're probably lusting after on Ebay. Don't do it man!:D
Consulted the people at the Apple store. Evidently, enough capacitor failures have occured on this model that they handle the fix in the store, with turnarounds generally around 2 days. Hmm, I may be able to get this fixed without worrying about an interim computer if that's the case. (2 days I definitely can live with. 3-5, I guess I can call it a short vacation. Unpaid, but that's okay. More than that... well, I'd need to get a new computer first.) Just need to pick good days to get this dealt with. Hopefully soon.

I'm about to go to the bank to cash my check and then go buy a diagnostic computer because my service engine soon light came on yesterday. I've also got a busted rod end to replace. I'm in for a fun weekend.

Sounds like Apple is better about dealing with their "oopsies" than they were in the days of the iBook motherboard failures. They acknowledge that they are there, which was a lng time coming with the 'Books.
I love their older computers, but I can't wait to get a new Mac and ditch these ancient, souped-up machines. Sooooooo slow.

I had two end of the world dreams this morning. One was from a comet impact. One was from a plague (I think). The 2nd one started to get weird when I was talking to my brother (who died in the first dream) and he was telling me there was a way to escape. Something along the lines of a surgery that will end up simulating the effects of heavy hallucinogenic drug usage. But instead of just hallucinating for a few hours you actually open up a hole to another dimension through which you conciousness can escape.
Then the phone rang and I looked at the clock, realising that I've been asleep for maybe 13 hours. I've been tired lately.
I always seem to wake up from a dream just as it's getting really good.
Except for the first dream. Oh boy did I die in that one.

Just got back from 50 miles with the Road cycling club. It was a great ride today about a 17mph avg. :) Shower, food, some liquids and then I'm riding 20 miles to my boss's cookout and then 20 miles home later. Woo Whoo!:D
Also bought a new Trek 4900 Mt bike last night. Going riding with my little brother tomorrow.:)

Nice bike, man! I'm thinking about getting one of those numbers to explore more of my favorite trails. The 10 mile ride TO the trails is what puts me off about it, but I might get either a mountain or a cyclocross bike some day just the same.
Got my other pair of new glasses this morning. I know, I know... I still owe pics of the other pair. (And of the car, and of the yet to be hemmed jeans.) I have a digital camera now, too, so maybe after my computer's issues are dealt with, I'll get around to the pics.
More financial bookkeeping to do... end of month/beginning of month tends to be when I deal with all that.

Nah, I had just finished a recorded episode of Cash In The Attic while eating breakfast and the cable box happened to be on HBO. Besides, lots of good robot-killin' at the end of that movie.
