Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In the middle of the first day of two weeks of 11 hour teaching days. That's not prep time, it's straight-up in the classroom, teaching. oh god...

I got many, many bikes back on the road today..some for friends.
That is one thing I have learned recently, and it'll sound like a complete boast, but I happen to know a few things about bikes. :)
What brought that comment about is the Friday meeting with the bike club. Several of the members came by the shop this week, people that are prominent members of my community, people that I have utter respect for and that ride much, much more than I do. I helped them resolve problems that stumped them, and it made me realize that I have found my proper role: Supporting cyclists and getting them back on the road with as little delay as possible. I'm just happy that this bike shop thing seems to be working into a real future for myself and my family.

Well. There has been a lot of chaos around me lately. Nothing that actually pertains to me, but anyway...just lots of stuff going on. Normally I would take more notice of it...but something very unexpected and truly surprising (in a very good way) happened recently. So all the other stuff seems to just melt away. Lately life has been very, very good. I keep pinching myself expecting to wake up...but it's real! So tonight, I'm going to say "Thanks!" to my entire Foo/BF family, and go to bed happy and content. G'night all!

I just went on a late night run. Too damn much heat in the day. I went on a day time run yesterday, and I could manage the sweating, but it was actually so hot that my throat burned similarly to how it would in the extreme cold.
Yep, best to wait for the dark.

Yay, just found out I don't actually have to buy a new tire for the fixie! Guy I'm buying it from has a replacement one, just never got around to putting it on the bike. I still need to head down to the shop today to get some tubes and try to get their opinion on the easiest way to get my bike to take non-French threaded pedals. I have a spare crank I could put in, but not sure if it'll be as easy as a simple swap since it's an old French frame.
At least I have a wrench now and was finally able to fix the poor bike's flat tire!
 It's a cold one here today! 39 with a high of 60. :(

Rode into work today on my 29er instead of the road bike...and beat my previous time by 3 minutes!:wtf:
I'm seriously wondering why, but it was a lot more comfortable, so I may have to ditch that ass-wedge and just ride the bike I'll be putting the most miles on anyway.

I think I've angered my fixie because I didn't take it to the farmer's market with me. I dropped it off at home, walked to the market, walked home, and as I was putting stuff away I heard a really loud bang from my living room. Walked out to see the rear tire on my fixie suddenly flat :(
Don't think I'll bother replacing the tube until I get a new tire for it, the one on the back is in rough shape and I can just ride my Specialized until it's replaced.
What the heck. I googled pictures for ghetto alpakahs and i ran into a picture of a giraffe trying to get busy with a donkey.
That was wrong yet extremely hilarious for many reasons.

Well, we found out what the weakest link in the chain was with the old engine in the Mitsubishi. 2 blown oil squirters. Seized 2 of the rods right to the pistons. The newly machined block will be ready tomorrow. Gotta put that together tomorrow, rent a hoist the next day since the cheap one my friend had broke, put everything back together, get the turbo working right, then go look for some Corvettes to slaughter or something.

Speaking from experience....that's not as good as it sounds. Especially in a tile shower. Ouch.

My inner city ride is over nasty glass, dirty potholed streets and I used the roadie when I first started commuting - ended up with several broken spokes and a wheel rebuild. So it's a mtb for me now. And the roadie comes out on escapes out to the sticks only.

So the coolest thing happened. Yesterday I went to this bike commuter after-work party at an LBS and they had a drawing for prizes. I won the grand prize - a very nice set of Axiom panniers (http://www.axiomgear.com/product/bags/pannier_bags/product.php?id=59). I can see using them for longer bike trips. My housemate hasn't purchased a set of panniers yet, and I can lend these to her so she has a chance to figure out what she wants before she makes an expensive purchase. :)

I went to buy my girlfriend lotion at the bath and body works. Me and my bros stood outside frozen, 3 ladies inside. I said "someone come in with me cuz i ain't going in alone". I guess the girl inside heard me because she was laughing and asked me what I was doing in there. I told her i was looking for coconut lotion for my GF. She said the only stuff they had was coconut candles, so I asked her if my GF could rub the candle on herself. She starts laughing and tells me no. I thanked her for her time and left lookin like a dope after I got shown every variation of coconut lotion, and sampled only to find none of them were "the" lotion.
In recent news, I had a spectacular burger with jalapenos, green chilies, onion tanglers, chipotle mayo on it. Frig'n good.

My score for yesterday was a new Pletscher touring stand for my bike... a buddy of mine was diving in the dumpster of one of the local shops and found 10-12 of these that had been tossed out.
Got it mounted up on the Trek (my touring bike) and just love it.
