Now you are going to be up all night, aren't you? :p
I'm writing an article about how China is keeping inflation under control... for now (dun dun DUUUUUUHHHHH). I'm also possessed by the urge to shout "I'll sterilize YOUR capital inflows, buddy" at someone, even though I'm not entirely sure what that means. Working on that.

Oh, I'm doing that :). I managed to work the term "pig glut" in when talking about pork supply. That made me giggle like a schoolgirl for a few minutes at least.

:) Doc checked me for a scratch on the eyeball and dilated my eyes, etc. Fun drive home. However when I got home the ex-husband took a look at me and started to laugh. Seems the stuff the doc used was neon yellow - and I seemed to have a neon yellow boog. Wonder how many people in the office saw that thing when I walked out.
You check the mirror lately? :D

Never try to drive or park your big truck with your eyes dilated from the doctor's office. Trust me.

That stuff is fluourescein, used to check your cornea for scratches and erosions. It's totally awesome under black light- you can have some real fun with it at parties, where your eyes glow in the dark. :thumb: (just kidding- don't try this at home... )

Tales of living in the ghetto:
I'm here in my living room on the computer. My curtain is open with the sheer one closed. The window over looks the rocking bench on my porch and my little table. There are two young male adults sitting on my bench, talking and listening to their radio. Every once in a while they peek over at me and I peek over at them. They look a little.....well put it this way - I wouldn't hang out with their type.
I opened the door and asked them what they are doing and they said they are listening to the radio. I asked them if they can do it elsewhere and they said they like my bench.
I am home alone, none of my roomies are here...
I know if I call the cops they will come back to harass me. Hmmm.
:twitchy:

Siu Blue Wind
06-11-08, 08:08 PM
One should be home in about three hours and the other should be home around midnight. I've got dogs. But I don't want these guys hanging out here!!! And they keep peeking in. I won't turn on my light because I don't want them to see me or the bikes and stuff. If I go to shut the curtains, I can't see what they are doing.

I was gonna say the only practical solution was to remove the bench after they've left, but I think it's now time to call the police, so they can at least get IDs on them. You already told them to leave so they have already acted aggressively towards you and are trespassing. It's your call on whether they should be arrested. Time to get security cameras now too.

What's Siu doing?
Siu Blue Wind
06-11-08, 08:59 PM
They didn't really act aggressively, they just said they liked my bench. And didn't leave.
So I let my dogs in the living room so they can see the guys through the window and so they can bark like crazy. I went and got my 30/06 and a rag. I opened the door, trying to not to let three big dogs out and told the guys that I needed the bench because I'm going to wipe down my gun.
They looked at me funny but they left. They retreated to the center of the court where their car is.
I sat there for a while, wiping it down and looking down the barrel a few times. I even licked my finger as if to use my saliva to get a stubborn mark out. And I smiled at them.
It was cool. :D

I had a little encouragement. ;) I really should keep it handy for emergencies. I had to dig it out. It was in storage and locked up. This is not my exact gun but it pretty much is this with the scope. It's a hunting rifle.

They meant to be aggressive. If calling the police wasn't something you were going to do, this was the way to go.

I must disagree. Now they know you (Siu) have a gun, an appealing thing to steal. They may be more motivated now to see if the house is empty during the day. The dogs may be enough deterrent, but I don't think you should show a gun until you actually feel in danger and are ready to use it. Of course it must be loaded. Showing an empty gun to strangers = bad idea.

If you are serious about this, no, you should not use a hunting rifle for emergencies. They are too long and unwieldy to use in the tight confines of a house, and the ammo is way too powerful. You need a gun loaded with "stoppers," either hollow-point hand gun bullets (a pistol or carbine like a Marlin Camp 9) or buckshot. And you need a quick-access gun safe. And some training.

Carbon, I've had to pass the handgun safety course in order to register the guns to me. I do have handguns as well, and I've passed quite well in area of firearms training in the police academy. I did in fact put the rifle back into it's safe quarters but I'm considering taking the handgun back out for home protection.
There is usually someone home here all the time, nobody here has regular work hours. Plus we have the dogs.
But thanks for the tips and the concern. ((hugs)) :)

I hope everything is OK Siu.
On a lighter note...a bunch of support crews for RAAM riders came by the shop today.
We're right on highway 160 on the route for the event, so we had a lot of requests for specialty equipment we just didn't have. One was for a flashing amber light, required for slow night driving, requested by what I assume was an all Italian speaking crew. One was a very petite lady that spoke some English, so we made a few calls around town to try and find one. No dice, but they appreciated our efforts and gave a team T-shirt to the guy that made all the calls.
What, no love for the manager that told him to make the calls? :p

Starting on my third cup of nicely strong Kona Blend. It is working. You need to be one with your caffeinated beverage. If you harsh it's mellow with negative vibes, it will not work it's magic juju on you.
