What's transgenic mice and what prep work are you doiong on them? You're not planning on sending them into outerspace are you :(
Transgenic mice are animals into whose genome has been inserted foreign/extra DNA. We're interested in a specific proteit and we want to see what are the effects of an abnormally high concentration of that protein. I'm not going to be making the mice, we have a core facility here on campus that does that because the technology required is very specific and expensive! But I have to prep the DNA. Unfortunately what we expect to happen to these mice is develop a skin disease with symptoms that resemble those of psoriasis :( :( :( Then we'll try to cure them :)
Psoriasis, huh? So you probably play with some immunosuppresants, either as the core of your work or as positive controls. Cyclosporin A, rapamycin, FK-506, or mycophenolic acid by any chance? When I was working at a biotech company (before going to grad school), I worked on cyclosporin A analogues. Boy was that difficult. Very hard to do anything useful with the molecule from a med chem point of view, and absurdly bad ADME properties. (Indeed, it's a classic example of a low water solubility low oral bioavailability substance.) Vague optimization goals. Expensive chemistry. Tough purifications. Boy was that a headache.
EDIT: Also, in the early 90's, my professor was the first to synthesize fully synthetic rapamycin. It's one of the more noteworthy total syntheses from that decade, and it defined a then novel macrocycle (large ring) forming strategy.

Yes immunosuppresants are the main current treatment. Efalizumab is one of the newest ones, it's an antibody that blocks adhesion of T-cells and prevents their accumulation in the skin (which is the reason for the lesions). The problem is that these drugs only temporarily alleviate the symptoms. Once patients are off the treatment, they'll almost always experience rebound of the symptoms at eaqual or worse intensity (because all the T-cells that were held in the blood are now free to enter the skin. What we're trying to find is exactly what is the signal (protein) that activates the immune cells, and what's more - keeps them activated for abnormal periods of time. Then what we can do is generate an antibody that would specifically bind to and block that protein.
Antibodies... as a former med chemist, I see them and think "yum, protein". :p

Sorry, the image quality isn't all that good, but the camera that comes w/ a Palm isn't great in low light situations. BTW, it's a chicken pot pie w/ a chicken stock reduction sauce mixed with cream and a parmesan cheese crust.

Does anybody recall the article that came out about (1 year ago) where they discovered some part of the gland that controlled the distribution of certain anti-body blood cells and they thought that if they could learn to control that then they could help people with muscular distrophy ? (I think)

Trying to decide whether or not to move.
Our curent house has appreciated considerably. We could cash out, scale back and buy my in-laws' former house where my wife grew up, and be debt-free (except for the mortgage).
I hate the transaction costs and moving, but everything else makes sense...

Okay Mr. Smartypants. Let's see how much you know me. What are the names of my other bikes?
^^^Siu, Blue, and Wind by any chance? I dunno, but I doubt your parents named you "Siu Blue Wind".
BeeTL, that's quite a decision you have to make! Good luck deciding.
Getting ready to set up one more reaction for the day. Happily, an overnight reaction.

What if I was Native American and Chinese?
Then that would definitely open up the universe of likely names. Whether or not you are, it would appear from your response that those aren't the names of your bikes.

I thought it was because the saddle gets play more easily than the rest of us.
Done with lab work for the day. Need to catch up on consulting work since I haven't done it since Friday. (In theory, I do my consulting work every day.)

You figured it out yet? Generally, these types of problems are much easier if you meticulously keep track of units. You simply consider the units of the information you're given (or that are derivable from information given, for example, molecular weight of all molecules, any info on gases derivable from PV = nRT, and the like) and the units of the answer to the question at hand and ask yourself how to manipulate numbers so that you can transform one set of units to the other set of units.
For example, this problem simply is asking you to translate 23.2g of (C2H5)2S to x mol of S. Just multiply by a whole bunch of fancy-looking things that all equal one, and you'll get from one to the other. Keeping meticulous track of units may sound like hard work, but it allows you to determine with ease whether what you're doing is right since if you do something wrong (short of simply entering a wrong number), your units won't make any sense. And better yet, with a bit of practice, the units even tell you what manipulations to do. I never memorize how to solve such problems nowadays. I just let the units tell me what I have to do. If you need more explicit help, feel free to ask, but do so quickly since I'm headed home soon.
Wrapping up and getting ready to go home. It's been a long day.
I just tried to take a shower but there was absolutely no cold water! Everyone knows what it's like to take a cold shower, but taking a shower when the water is scorching hot is a lot worse! All I could do was kind of splash myself with water. Maybe I'll try again in the morning. For now, good night everyone. :)
At home now, eating a honey tangerine. Never bought them before. It seems decently good, though I prefer the ultra-sweet Mandarin oranges found at Costco. Need to write a check for rent, but otherwise, I'm done with any semblance of "work" for the night.
