Really? No way? Now what made you go check that? :p
edit: Oh! I forgot I started this thread! Sorry, I just had ice cream. I'll be flying any moment now.
Yes, Siu, you had post #1000. I noticed that a while back, but was too busy trying to finish off work to congratulate you earlier. Congrats. :)
I'm home now. Hmm, ice cream sounds pretty good right now. And I happen to have some Ben and Jerry's in the fridge.
My legs are protesting a bit from my pre-breakfast ride. Starting in the late afternoon, they've been tensing up a bit and complaining. Argh... that's what I get for going so long between non-commuting rides.
I finished eating some grapes, so I'm now enjoying some Cherry Garcia ice cream. :)
Done eating ice cream for now. Trying to decide what to wear to sleep. I'm tempted to wear everything I wore last night and be almost ready to rush out the door on my pre-breakfast ride again. If my leg warmers, arm warmers, and base layer are on, I'm more likely to drag myself out of bed in the morning to go riding since I'm already half way dressed for it. Plus, I figure warm legs means happy legs, and having Pearl-Izumi leg warmers on should keep my legs nice and toasty.

It's my day off and it's raining again. :( I can't stand this. It never is sunny on my day off. It's Merton's fault. He's having trouble with his bike again. Curses.

My thoughts exactly... I wish I felt sick enough to take the day off and go for a spin. ;)
Aw man yall guys are good.
Well, I'm done with classes for the week, but I still have a lot of work and projects to do before Friday. :( Friday afternoon, I'm going home for spring break. :) It's been really hard to concentrate on work this past week because I'm really looking forward to getting home, relaxing, and seeing some friends I haven't seen in a long time. And I also get to ride my bike again! :D Twenty-four more hours and I get to go home! WEEEEEEEE!!!! :D :) :p

 I look like a mess once I've finished cleaning my commuter... bad thing is, when it rains, that means cleaning it every single day and lubing the chain, cleaning the rims and pads every couple of days. My hands are in a sorry, sorry condition right now

No no no. We're all bad. Get it right.
I've called in sick once in my 2.5 years of grad school. On a Saturday. I don't recall feeling sick on that day. :) I do recall that from 6 AM to noon the next day (a 30 hour window), I spent about 24 of those hours in bed. Happily, since I had gone home early the day before because I truly didn't feel well (probably something I ate at lunch), my coworkers didn't question my calling in sick and told me on Monday it was too bad my girlfriend had to visit on a weekend I wasn't feeling so well.
I called in on another occasion saying I wasn't going to go in. Again on a Saturday. Had just broken up with my girlfriend the night before and needed a weekend off. But I made no claims of being sick that time... just bluntly told the truth.
Back when in industry, well, my boss made a habit of using her "sick days" for other purposes and encouraged such behavior in me. So I called in sick a few times when feeling not perfect, but feeling well enough to go kart racing later in the day.

Hahha.
I can't recall ever having called in sick yet, albeit when I was in the Navy, I was given vicodin once, which knocked me out for a week and after recovering from pneumonia i was given antibiotics which knocked me out again.

I'm searching BF for parts recommendations for my new ride.
How's the new ride treating you? Getting more comfortable on a fixie? Do you find it difficult to start/stop with your feet not always at the same place? I know on my roadie, I almost always stop with my right pedal down and unclip on my left side. And almost always start with a downstroke on my right side.

That's an interesting mondegreen, TG. Never would've gotten that from his song.
Anywho, I'm staying home tonight. That means I'll be on here quite a bit.:) Not exactly sick, but the consensus is that I probably got bitten by an insect or arachnid...on the neck. I really have no idea what happened. Sure does look like a bite, tho. What I thought was a pimple/ingrown hair on my neck turned into an angry red bump 3-4 times the original size and, suddenly, half my neck is sore. My lymph node is working overtime dealing with it and I feel like crap. Got some antibiotics this morning, tho, to make it all better(hopefully).*fingers crossed* Watch out for those creepy-crawlies, guys.

I know on my roadie, I almost always stop with my right pedal down and unclip on my left side. And almost always start with a downstroke on my right side.
It's hard to describe. You really have to try riding one for yourself. The riding part is fun cuz you don't have to think about gearing up or down. And when you concentrate on pedaling through the full rotation, speed builds nice and smooth. Plus it's almost completely silent. Just wind and road noise. The ride is different too. It's a steel frame so I get feedback from the road, but it's dampened just right. My mtb is steel too, but feels different. Not better or worse, just different.
Starting for me means lifting the rear wheel up and rotating the pedal around to a starting position for whichever foot I want to start with. Stopping position is something you determine. If you're feet aren't in the normal position for your stop, you just rotate slowly until they are. Panic stops for me are accomplished with a handful of brake. Can't skid or skip yet. Trackstanding is definitely a skill I'll need to learn so I don't have to unclip at stops.
I haven't tried commuting on it yet until I get it set up just right and also get better at controlling it in panic situations. I made note of all the things I did on my commute today w/ my mtb and found the following: pseudo bunny hop over a metal cover surrounded by potholes, braked hard and skidded to avoid peds, coasted while riding between lines of traffic and over rough surfaces and did half-ass trackstands at intersections. Basically, commuting on a fixie would mean altering my riding style to suit my abilities on that bike which will take more practice to get the muscle memory down. So far I've found I need to look a block or two ahead of me to see what the traffic lights are doing, peds, etc. I've also just rode through reds instead of stopping because I'm still going fast enough to get through cleanly and I can't stop in time w/o using the brakes. It's a learning experience and I have to commit it all to muscle memory so it becomes second nature. It'll be a lot of fun learning this though.
edit: I forgot to mention effort level. While the fixie is lighter, it seems the effort level to do the same trip around CP is much less than on my mtb. In other words, the effort level is disproportionate. That's the feeling I get although if I were to instrument it, I might find that not to be the case. However, my legs felt fresher and almost as if I didn't use them when I got back from the park. I still need to do a long ride on it, but that'll have to wait until I get it set up right.

Riding a fixie is fun as long as you can handle whatever it takes.
It seriously is soo ****ing annoying as ****, pardon my french to have to worry about shifting gears. The last 6 monhts i've done that, after spending most of my life in 3rd and 7th . Supposedly its bad for your knees if you're in a bad gear that forces you to push too hard. But it definitely requires less thinking and fewer parts to worry about going wrong.

Coastal San Diego is where people around LA retreat to to enjoy their weekends when it's too hot (summer) or too cold (winter).

Yup, Florida's not bad, from what I hear. Never been, though.
If it makes you feel better, there's snow on the mountains behind my parents' house. Drive a few miles, and you reach the snow.
