Foo - Whatcha doin'?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm most definitely not married. Tennis Shoe Girl is TSG. PRG is Piano Recital Girl, the friend whose piano recital I attended last Saturday night and with whom I hung out last Sunday. Not to be confused with PRF (Puerto Rican Friend), the girl in the pictures from last summer, who I also last talked to (by phone) on Sunday. (Nothing new in the above few sentences... just rehashing some recent posts all in one place to clear up Lex's confusion with the acronyms.)

You forgot TSGS - tennis shoe girl's sister.
Are you guys (err... BFD's) taking notes on my social life or something? That, or you have too many brain cells to devote to memorizing what you read! Yes, there was also TSG's sister, who jyo had given the acronym TSGS.
By the way, you BFD's and BFG's, I feel compelled to note once again that this last month is a statistical anomaly. Sadly, my life generally is not nearly this interesting. :(

About to head off to the prospective student reception.

Just finished dinner. Grilled tuna w/ a wine and stock reduction sauce and sauteed squash, mushrooms and garlic. Had chocolate ice cream w/ macerated strawberries and sauteed bananas. Yummy.
and partAy?=D
Yup... people have basically cleared out of the reception by now. Since my reactions in the lab are running overnight, I'm going to do as I'm supposed to and go hang out with prospective graduate students tonight. Have to leave in a few minutes to go pick them up at the hotel and drive them to a bar.
jyo, your dinner sounds delicious. I'd happily be your adjunct son anytime you need an extra person at dinner. :D

I could vomit a better dinner than that.
I got that beat. I got Nutella. Nutella > frozen chicken paste. And Jsc, if you let me drive your car, you can come over for dinner.
Back on topic, I'm looking at Avid SD 7.0 or SL brakes and levers for one of my bikes. The IRO brakes aren't all that good compared to the Avid SD 2.0s on my mtb so I'm thinking of an upgrade to the SD 7.0s or SLs. The plan would be switch the old SD 2.0s from my mtb to the IRO and put the new Avids on my mtb. The reason is cuz the rear brake spring tension screw is messed up and I'd only put the front brake on the IRO and run it w/ no rear brake cuz it's a fixie.
I had salmon with chips and queso. Thats the master dinner pwner of all.

I'm mapping out a route for a ride tomorrow that has bunches of hills, all of which I hate. I'm trying to convince myself that I'll be a better person for riding them. I also found out my Nashbar delivery won't be coming until Tuesday. I hate waiting.

Right now I'm feeling sorry for myself. Took a nap from 7 till 9:30 and as usual woke up groggy and disoriented (thought it was 3am at first and then thought it was Thursday and that I had ro go to work tomorrow  ), so as a consequence I didn't get to go to the training center shooting range, and also I didn't feel like going out :( And I was so ready for a 60-mile ride tomorrow but I wouldn't be able to because of snow/rain showers  .... And I really want papaya right now but I ate it all yesterday
P, sorry to hear that. :(
I'm just back from a long night of entertaining prospective students. (Some people are still out there.) I'm not much of a party/bar scene type person, but once in a while, it's a nice change of pace. And there were a few people that I had a good time talking with.
EDIT: I left my umbrella in the car since it wasn't raining. Then when it was time to go home, it was pouring. So the person I was driving back to the hotel and I got completely soaked walking half a mile in the rain. Oh well, whatever, we seemed to both take it in stride.
Jsc, if you let me drive your car, you can come over for dinner.
Sounds good to me. You know, Asian children take very good care of their parents. My sisters and I figure that we need to get our dad a Porsche 911 convertible somewhere down the line since my mom won't let him get one (not because of money) but he really wants one even though I think it totally wouldn't suit him. Perhaps we'll get him a Mercedes-Benz SL600 instead.
Thinking about getting to bed. And having a hard time not thinking about one of the prospective students. [Further thoughts deleted... jschen will be a good boy and not say more about her other than jschen would be thinking about her anyway, but to top it all off, she loves road cycling.] It must be hormones or something... why is it that recently, most everything going on in my life (other than the car) is in some way about girls? Bad jschen...

As for jyo's plans to cook, it's tempting to go over there, except breakfast with the prospective students is in an hour. I wonder how many meals from him a Porsche would buy. Yes, we have to eat with them and then show them around our labs. What a tough life we lead when prospective students are around.

Finished catching up on BF. Time to go to work.
Last night was the first time in nine recruiting weekends as a grad student (three per year) that I took on Friday night activities. Maybe I should make tonight the first time I bother with the Saturday night party. We'll see... gotta get work done first.

Way to completely sidestep talking about the sexy cycling grad student jsc. I believe details are in order.

Sorry, I'm not going to say much for now. She still has to visit Harvard next week (who would want to go there  :p ), so we don't even know if she's coming to our institute. Until she picks a place, my job is simply to give her any and all information necessary to help her make her choice in as unbiased a fashion as possible. When she picks a grad school, my duties as a hosting graduate student come to an end. (Even though she's not the person I'm hosting, my duties really are about the same.) Then if she comes to our institute, I might try to get to know her outside the context of helping her pick a grad school. And for all I know, she might be married.
By the way, I didn't say "hot", "smart", or "sexy". You're putting words in my mouth!
Awesome. :) Go ride, even if with a towel around your head.

If you're considering Harvard for grad school, you're smart. If she caught your attention and wasn't even the student you were hosting she's attractive (hot). And if she's a cyclist, she's probably in good shape w/ nice legs (sexy). ;)
I just got back from a ride up 9W. I swear I had a headwind all the way to the GW bridge and up 9W cuz my split time was longer for the out leg than the return leg and the return leg was longer. Also, I usually don't ride at 20 mph up a bridge on the last half of a ride. I thought I saw slvoid heading the opposite direction on the GW bridge, but I was probably hallucinating. I also took my first failure to unclip fast enough fall at a hairpin turn on the exit off the bridge. Luckily I had come to a complete stop and basically just fell over. When I got home I remembered where my cycling shorts are. Oh well, I'll wear them next time. In any case, it was a beautiful day for a ride and tons of cyclists were out today.

Firstly, that's not a "cheese eatin' grin." I was eating mud, thankyouverymuch. As for the bike, well, the rear tire was underinflated so I took it back and demanded a refund. I mean, if they can't get the tire firm enough for my ginormous ass, I'm not buying from them. Would you?:p

That's okay... I did that on my road bike the first and third times I went out for a ride. Rode up the apartment complex driveway in a 42/25 gear, and with my atrocious balance back then, fell over for lack of speed going up the slight incline. (Almost fell over the second time, too!)
Just finished critiquing my colleague's seminar that he'll be giving next week at his job interviews. Wondering whether to eat lunch or if I should just get my work done and skip lunch.
Sorry, EJ123, against your better wisdom, I'm skipping lunch to try to get things done. It didn't help that we spent two hours working on my colleague's presentation. And earlier, I also spent 45 minutes eating breakfast with prospective grad students, then another 45 minutes showing a particular prospective student around (umm, no comment), and then ten minutes later, had to show a group of four prospective students around for another 20 minutes. In between, I only got about 20 minutes of research done, so I need to get caught up.

LOL karldar youre hilarious:roflmao:
Leftover culture? Yuck! No, no leftovers sitting around. But breakfast was a 10 AM, and there's dinner and a party in a few hours. So it's better to try to get all my work done so that I can go to the party. I didn't go in the past, but well, there's some prospective students I should be talking to since they're interested in my lab but didn't get a chance to drop by today.

What about those chocolate pudding things? I think they make a strawberry, too. Our lab techs in the Army swore by 'em, especially when there's some good-sized colonies on there.;)
