Foo - Whatcha doin'?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Yeah, driving shoes and gloves has been on my to-do list for a while now. Every birthday, I think about getting them. But then I always end up getting other things instead.
Lows nowadays are in the low 40s. Not that cold, but when your core is in contact with warm seats and the rest of your body other than your feet (insulated by socks and shoes) is only in contact with air (low specific heat), your hands feel really cold by comparison.

Hmmm...a dynohub to provide electricity to heating coils in the handlebars and seats...Only problem is it's a dynohub which saps 1-2 mph off avg. speed. You willing to live w/ that jschen? Otherwise, it's a heavy battery that you have to recharge to provide the juice.

On my commuter, sure. If you sap 2 MPH when I'm going uphill, I'm still going 8 MPH. Or a battery is fine. It just has to last 20 minutes anyway. Is there a high-end lithium polymer battery for the weight weenie in me? :D
On my carbon fiber bike, hmm... I'll have to get back to you about that. I don't want to be slower than the guy CycleMagic was making fun of on Sunday.
Group insurance, as I recall. You must get lots and lots of angry folks. If I see any approaching I'll be sure to call someone....Tex maybe....just to let him know.
Good memory...
Oh, yeah, I forgot...memory has nothing to do with it.
You're the one responsible for that slight clicking sound in the background every time I pick up the phone, yes?
Checked on my reaction and it appears to be going well. :) Which is always a good thing, but it's especially satisfying when it didn't go well before, but a simple and rational proposed fix appears to be working exactly as planned. That's a very rare occurance in the lab. This reaction isn't really a highlight of the current project, but nonetheless, the project can't proceed without it working properly.
Taking a break and catching myself daydreaming about ways to spend money. I do this too often when my investments are seeing significant short term gains. Bad jschen... I really ought to cut out the habit of dreaming about spending unrealized gains (ie gains that have been achieved but not yet converted to cash). Or for that matter, dreaming about spending money that's earmarked for the long term.
Okay, I'll get my mind off of that by sending an e-mail to EPG. I'm way too slow with personal e-mails nowaday. EPG and I used to e-mail and chat on ICQ daily. Now, we're lazy.

I'll just use plastic batteries to save on weight. In fact, I'll make them rod shaped so you can slip them in your seattube and just plug the bike into an outlet to charge.

What's wrong with day dreaming? I day dream all the time! I don't know what I would do if I didn't day dream constantly. I'd go crazy! I like dreaming about spending all my money! :)

Cool! Let me know if you need a testing staff for your prototypes. :)

Collecting, spinning, and freezing blood samples LC-ESI-MS.
I like dreaming about spending all my money! :)
I do that sometimes, too. It gets more interesting over time as "all my money" starts referring to ever-larger amounts.

I am overhauling the BB on my Dream.
Bumping a bunch of threads in Foo for amusement. Then it will be back to getting work done. Running my earlier reaction turned out to be a bad idea. I'll try again after happy hour (at 5 PM).

8 Minutes to Go! Wish I could join ya down there :D
sunninho, come on over. Every other Friday at 5.
By the way, I guess my boredom with Foo didn't last very long, thanks to people actually posting again. Where was everyone when I became the last responder in the top 25 non-sticky threads? sunninho and jhota were there, but that's it.

Eating dinner. Spinach fettucine w/ grilled chicken, sauteed mushrooms and zucchini in a garlicy 2 cheese sauce. Have enough leftover for tomorrow too.
Back from happy hour. Had some pizza and beer. (Same thing at every happy hour.) Now getting ready to set up my final experiment of the night. And dealing with some other lab-related stuff. Need to show some random guy around on Monday morning. And need to follow up on e-mails from people who might be joining our lab. (No, PGS is not one of them.)

I'm a little stiff, but it was worth it to increase my already fabulous muscle mass. I hate reverse curls, tho. Damn! Probably shouldn't lift the same amount for reverse curls as I curl normally, tho.:o
Still gotta do cardio and eat something. You people stop with the fooing!

that sounds pretty good. i had a stir fry with steak, rice, zucchini, red pepper, and onions. tasted good, but not the right food for being sick. i just wanted to use up old stuff in the fridge.
and speaking of being sick...yep. i got something. not a cold, not quite a flu, but just a very sore body. i feel like i was in an accident. so, on my st. patty's friday night i'm laying on the couch moaning and talking to you guys.

me too. that's why it's 2 cheese sauce (parmesan and alpenzeller) instead of a normal alfredo. didn't have enough parmesan.
Oh, why thank you, jyo! I'd love some.
come on over peregrine. you're welcome to it. i'll be out tomorrow so i'll leave the key under the 10 ton toad i keep out front.

Dealing with stupid utilities. I'm pretty sure SBC is going to dick around with me since they own a monopoly on both phone AND cable services. Last time they wouldn't set me up for 2 weeks . Sprint, could have somebody there in under 24 hours but they couldn't touch the area.

I'm still in the lab since my reaction isn't complete. Judging by the results a little while ago, it hopefully will be done before 9. Then it's just a few minutes' worth of manipulating the reaction mixture before I can take off for the night.
I still haven't found good recommendations for a place to get my jeans hemmed. I think I'll give up on getting firsthand recommendations and just see if the place across the street from my apartment deals with denim alterations.

All the women you know and none of them sew?
My grandmother tends to deal with my family's alteration needs. But she doesn't handle denim, and she prefers not to handle expensive stuff. At $200/pair, the jeans TSG and TSGS helped me pick out definitely are on the expensive side.
And I don't think asking female friends to do a bunch of busywork for me is a good way to be in good standing with my female friends as a whole the next time I seriously like one of them. Word spreads, you know.
jyossarian
03-17-06, 09:22 PM
You don't ask them to hem them. You get them to offer their tailoring services. That way you stay in their good graces.
My reaction's not done, so I'm waiting some more. I guess I should get my consulting work done in the meantime.

I like sewing :). I have a love affair with my sewing machine and right now I have two pairs of my boyfriends jeans on my floor to be patched up for him after his tailor told him they were past repair.
So this is where all the cool kids hang out eh?
//edit: btw: go to a fabric store - they have this new double sided master ultra tape sort of stuff that creates no sew hems that stay quite well
RVAbatman, if you were anywhere near San Diego, I'd offer you my jeans to hem to help keep you amused. I bought my jeans four weeks ago and still haven't gotten them hemmed. Admittedly, two weeks were taken up by car issues and car shopping. And prospective grad student recruiting has kept me rather busy the last few weeks. But still... I should have gotten this done by now.

AAaahhh I heart San Diego. I spent a week there in 9th grade and fell in love hahaha. Fly me out there and I'll totally do it.
You sure your boyfriend would be cool with that? You flying across the country to hem some other guy's jeans?
jyossarian
03-17-06, 10:31 PM
y'know RVA, if you apply to grad school where jsc works, they'll fly you out for free and booze you up to try and get you to go to his school. Then you can hem is pants and get your drink on.

For $200 you coulda had a tailor make you a pair of jeans in any style. You could just roll up the cuffs and look like some 1950's teenager.

Haha as long as his jeans got fixed before I left he'd be fine. He knows my secret love for sewing haha.
Free booze and plane??!? Sweet.
Wait.
I have to finish college part one first haha.
