There is something very Monty Pythonish/Terry Gilliamish about those paintings. :) I like them. :)

Those pics just made my day. Thanks Eboo...after the senate hearings on Iraq, and other reasons, today was looking mighty dreary.

I know, right? If you look at the link I posted in the first one, you can look at three pages of his paintings. I would like to buy a print if I can find one.

My pleasure :) If it's any consolation, I had the gnarliest dream last night, and you were totally in it. A whole bunch of my friends and I were at a circus. You are my first internet friend to pervade my dreams. No, you weren't speaking yiddish...

Looks like there are a number of Jacek Yerka prints on ebay.
If only I had money to spend on wonderful things like art.

I know. I don't really have the money. Maybe I'll just enslave him and make him paint for me every day. Kinda like Misery, except I won't hobble the poor man. Much...

True, except I was reminded of Dali when I saw those paintings. Very cool.
I'm surfing Foo from the bus, and fearing for the life of my poor little bike strapped to the front of the bus, because some jack*** damn near got run over by us, but it would have hit my bike first.

Been a little sick lately and just kickin' back and relaxing tonight. Hopefully I'll feel better for the weekend. Haven't been feeling well enough to do anything lately. I did have sushi last night though. Small things make you happy sometimes.

Can I come live with you? Please? I'll be good, I promise.
Your life sounds like a dream! What is it that you do exactly? You plant tons of trees and monitor thier growth? *sigh*
Well, I have to admit that it is. In reality, it is my wife's dream. She wanted to become fluent in Spanish, so, after more than 20 years of marriage (we have now been married more than 26 years) I decided it was high time to make her life dream a success. Well, I wasn't planning on becoming fluent in Spanish (I had never even taken a class in it) so I needed something to do. So, I started a company called Finca Leola S.A. www.fincaleola.com Finca = Farm and Leola is my wife's middle name, so, it is really called "Amy's Farm" - so that I could blame her if it did not work. ;)
Anyway, it did work, incredibly well. So, we grow trees, lots of trees. Yesterday I was ading up in my head the amount of land and we are pretty close now to 400 acres - and probably will be buying more this year.
I could write a lot more about this - but I don't want to take over foo with it unless people want to hear more. I will be writing about my life here unless it bores people.
Shadiyah - you can come visit anytime. I was actually thinking it would be fun to have a foo tour down here - I can help with all the arrangements, and at a considerable break - in fact, we can go as cheap (or expensive) as people would like. A bike tour down here would be a riot (perhaps literally with a few people in foo... )

By the way, I guess I could say I plant tons of trees, but only by proxy. Our workers do - we provide a lot of jobs and pay better than average. ALL our farm workers have health insurance after 3 months (and retirement). 3 months is probation. It is the law here, but many people don't follow it.

Yesterday as I said I went to the farm. We just did a shuffle and we now have new people living at our first finca. I was getting to know them a bit. It had been a couple of weeks since I was on the finca too, so the required trip around 170 acres to check the trees was in order. I wasn't planning on it since I had a lot to do, but the horse were already saddled and it was EXPECTED of me (who ever said that presidents of companies can do what they want need to have their head examined!) - So, we have three horses, one small horse, and one very strong horse named Toro (my favorite) and a new BIG horse named Macon (as in the truck). Since I am the Patron, they setup Macon for me. This is a really strong horse, and very active.
I am a pretty decent horseback rider by now, but a horse like Macon can still cause me to wonder what in the world I am doing on top of a horse this big.
Anyway, it was 2 hours with the horses seeing the plantation, we returned, put the horses away, and then it was 5 hours mapping the new land (70 acres). To map for planting, you have to mark the flat zones and the steep zones so you can calculate how many of each tree you need. This means walking up and down valleys, ridges and gullies for 5 hours. I was nearly staggering by the end (and I noticed no workers were volunteering to go with me)
There is a bit of nerviousness too - we have killed very large fer-de-lance in these fincas. A mean snake, very dangerous (25th in the world they say) so I am always on the look out. I notice my faithful dog always lets me go first too!

Sounds awesome crtreedude. Ride horses, hiking and bike riding all in one day and you do this regularly? That's cool.
I'm drinking coffee and waiting for it to take effect.
crtreedude

I drink a lot of coffee too... ;) Coffee = Liquid Ambition. Drink enough and you HAVE to do something!
Yeah, I do that pretty regularly. At least once a week. I ride the bike to the office and back - I try to make that round trip about 25 kilometers or more. The actual shortest distance is 7 kilometers round trip, but it is too short and I like to explore.
My life is truly weird. For example, this mornings discussion with the Caretaker for the Monte Cristo farm.
1. Need parts for the Stihl 090 AV chainsaw and a sharpener.
2. Instructions for new paths.
3. Instructions for moving a cow from behind the office (honest, we have cows and sheep at our office!) and moving Tennesse, my Tennesse Walker (a horse) to La Garita finca and switch with Toro. Toro used to be used for hauling wood and he is my favorite and I want him with me.
4. Completing deal for a new horse and a motorcycle (Dirt bike, 185 CC - better than a car for visiting the fincas) - part of the deal in a trade with a refrigerator.
This does not include my correspondance with a Bank who wants to start buying trees with us, a negotiation with a company in England as a distributor, another company who wants us to just plant trees for them (not as investment) and several other things.
Saturday, I have to walking another farm (70 acres) and talk with a contractor for the initial cleaning, fence repair and perhaps road building. I might ride my bike to the meeting (15 miles)
Sleep, it is for the weak...

Yep, you need a license. I have one for driving a car. I have driven a Moto a few times, nothing particularly hard about it - and I will be wearing a helmet.

I just got done reading this joke:
A South Carolina farm wife called the local phone company to report that
her
telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few
occasions when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone
rang. The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this
psychic dog or senile lady.
He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the
subscriber's house. The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog
moaned and the telephone began to ring. Climbing down from the pole, the
telephone repairman found:
1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel
chain and collar.
2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was
called.
4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.
5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to
ring.
Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and
moaning...
Heh, I really had no idea where that joke was going until the last sentence...
Trying to get the printer to work:(
