I'm trying to trace the source of a mysterious leak that's warping the side of the vanity where it meets the floor. I pulled the kick board off and found lots of mold and mildew. Immediately put on the mask and goggles and bombed the ***** out of it. Still trying to trace the mystery leak...sigh...stuff like this just ruins my nap plans.
I hate leaks. The place I lived at 1 1/2 years ago, had numerous water leaks underneath it. Man, nothing like crawling under there trying to fix them.

I'm moving furniture. Yes, it's ~0110 here. No, I don't want to move furniture, but I'm getting pretty close to my bachelor pad.

Got some girl's phone number.
Getting ready to go on a date tomorrow, by shaving of course!
Good luck on your date, 56 (which is probably long since over).
I'm at work trying not to wail, scream and ask why......still making CDs.

I just had a fun morning. Created some cool DHTML effect for a new feature in our product. Got it working in all major browsers on all major platforms. :D. And now I'm on BF so my productivity for the day will go to crap. And all the geeks around me are talking about this new MMORPG game that sounds cool if i was into gaming :( I don't have the time for them though.

Let's see...I went to a party for my two friends who are being deployed to Iraq in a week. Kinda kills the buzz, sitting at a party and knowing your friends are going off to do things like border checks and drive convoys over minefields. Then I worked on some papers for school. Luckily I don't have any finals this semester, so I finish those babies up and I'm DONE. Then I have to get a job. [edit: a second job] Also a buzzkiller. And you?

I didn't do much. Saturday morning it was raining so I didn't go cycling in the park like I usually do. Tried to pretend like I was getting work done, but didn't get much done. I'm going to have alot of people pissed at me pretty soon. We did get this one dude's website closer to "completion", ironing out the bugs and stuff. Did alot of 15 and 30 minute napping too.
I also looked at parts that extremely expensive that I'd like to use to build a brand new machine. My friend, who is the aforementioned dude, says I shouldn't be spending all that money on a brand new machine. I'm thinking that he's kind of right and that I might end up with a slight compromise.

Yeah, I think they will be okay. One of the guests at the party was a guy who had just recently come back from Iraq, and so I'm a little more confident that people actually survive ;). you just hear all that bad stuff in the news and it sinks in...
how was your weekend? How did the pet projects go?

And you used short words when talking about computers. I appreciate this. What kind of machine do you think you will end up building?
TexasGuy
05-01-06, 10:28 AM
Yes, there is something to be said for short words :D
Looking to build an Intel machine. Would like 2-4Gb of memory
Going to have lots of hard drives. Want to do RAID 1+0 (use 4 hard drives for 1 logical drive for speed/accuracy) And 2 video cards, like my current system but much badder :D
There's supposeldy a new chip being released in July from Intel that is supposed to blow away the competition, so I gotta make sure that whatever I do buy will upgrade to it, as it might be a cheaper upgrade if i find I'm not happy with the new system (If /when i get around to building it).

That's a lot of memory...more memory than I think I've ever had total in all the computers I've owned  . Building a computer sounds hard. So would this be totally for personal use or could you write it off as a business expense? ;)

If i need to write it off as a business expense I probably will and will be able to since it's for the business I run on the side.

Nah... 2-4 GB isn't that crazy. I have 2 GB at the moment. Our new graphics machine the admins got (with four PowerPC G5 processor cores!) has 8 GB. That, admittedly, is a bit of overkill for their needs. If I were spec'ing the machine, they would have gotten an upgraded video card, only two processor cores, and "only" 4 GB or RAM.
Plus, I understand that TexasGuy runs VirtualPC (for PC) sometimes to be able to test browser compatibility. If he's doing so on this computer, that extra RAM will be really helpful.
Hey, TG, have you tried using Parallels Workstation (http://www.parallels.com/) as a substitute for VPC? If so, what do you think of it? It's being ported to Intel Macs (currently in public beta), and part of me is itching for the new Intel PowerBook. Err, MacBook. (What an ugly name. But what a beautiful computer.) VPC doesn't work on the Intel Macs, and there's no word as to whether it's getting ported. Yes, Apple has the dual-boot solution, but I'd much rather run a slightly slower, virtual Windows machine than reboot. I've actually become a huge fan of running virtual machines for tasks that aren't too performance-hungry. I love being able to save a known good state and being able to return to that state at will.
Oh, and I'm at work, dreading dealing with reactions that aren't working as planned. Ah, the great fun of a research career. :p

funny thing. I'm at work too :D I just spent the last 2 hours fighting over something that my fuzzy brain should have recalled. I can't set a html element's float through Javascript without a special property. 2 hours wasted doing loopholes, seeing it work when i hard coded it but not working when i set it via JS
