Coffee and bowties! mmmm... Spent the weekend w/ my Mom in Atlantic City. We both survived a few bucks richer.
Morning Foo. I'm having breakfast with my co worker and boss. I didn't have that much luck while riding into work this morning. While riding I noticed that my rear wheel was low and only having a hand pump on me while riding I ended up taking the bus to work. It was kinda uncomfortable for I was receiving some weird looks from people. I guess it was because I looked like a cyclist for I had one pant leg rolled up, a messenger bag with a lock attached, and a cap. I live in a primarily hispanic area where cyclists are rarely seen so, I guess, when one is seen, they can't help but look. *shrug* whatever. It's a beautiful day though. Have a good one everyone.
Ciao.

I just did a pre-breakfast run for the first time that I can ever remember. Damn did that suck. But I feel good now. Thing is, apparantly that helps your metabolism, and I've gained 5 pounds over the past couple weeks, so I need to change something. My metabolism sucks to begin with, so its a struggle to stay fit, even with a diet so healthy its borderline gross.

<slinkin' off happily for coffee>
Good Morning all, I just finished watching the Giro stage via the Cycling.tv stream, the last stage in Sardinia, beautiful place, it goes on my travel list now.
I have plans to ride a century today, need to get ready and boost the motivation. Nice and sunny day here, forecast is for high temps in the low 70's, now I'm getting motivated ;-)
Good day to you all!!

I never said I wasn't hungry at 5am, myself. But I wasn't gonna get up on just two hours of sleep.
Of course, now I'm famished. I see some major caloric intake on my near horizon. :D

Hey Vega! How was you ride yesterday? Did you get in another hill climb?
The problem for me, eating breakfast at 5am, is that I had to have lunch at 10:30.
You need to hang out with more hobbits, as the following quote from Wiki will explain:
"Hobbits enjoy at least seven meals a day, not including snacks, when they can get them - breakfast, (arguably) second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, tea, dinner and later, supper. They like simple food such as bread, meat, potatoes, and cheese, have a passion for mushrooms, and also like to drink ale and beer, often in inns — not unlike the English countryfolk, who were Tolkien's inspiration."

I have the same problem. When I'm up so early, I usually have to eat four or five meals during the day. Not snacks. Meals.
Ride yesterday: 31-miles with headwind on the way back in. And most of that was uphill. I'd never been on this route before, and was amazed at the never-ending hills to crest on the last 15 or so miles. I think I left everything on the road. If I can just do my roadrace like that on May 26. I don't have many chances left to get in my 30 to 35-mile training rides.... I'm a little worried that the ride on May 19 is gonna cost me two days of recovery, leaving me with only one or two good training rides in the week prior to this race.... :o

I feel like I already live with Hobbits. My wife is 5'3" and our daughter is now up to 46". :)
Somehow, I ran 5 and a half miles yesterday. I felt great, but now today my legs are sore in a place they've never been before. I need a massage. :(
Oh and something I ate yesterday is giving me the ****s. Probably what I cooked for mothers day.

The ride this weekend will be a great training ride. When you recover from that ride the flats will seem much easier. Don't worry about cramming rides in the week before your race. It is much better to fully recover and let your body get stronger from the effort this weekend than anything else. Push yourself this weekend and rest up for your race the following. We can talk about the timing of all that Sat.

Yes, a long climb makes you physically and mentally tougher. I suspect a 50 mile mountain ride will be worth two or three training rides for you.

You need to do 4 sets of 20 pushups, spread out over the next hour and man up.

Morning Foo! I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm NOT ready to start another work week.
Tip #1: Do not go for late night hikes on Sunday nights.
Tip #2: Do not go "trail hopping" on such hikes.
Tip #3: If cat meows all night and keeps you up, put him in the basement.
Sheesh! It's one of those days that I am very thankful coffee exists. :p

Mornin', y'all. Got in a 20 miler or so up one of my favorite local climbs yesterday (no, the climb isn't 20 miles long - it's a little over 2, with flat-to-lightly-rolling terrain the rest of the way). I haven't been riding much lately - hard to get motivated for reasons I won't go inot here - and I was slower than usual heading uphill, but it was a pretty day and it felt good to get out.
As for today, I'm here at work killing a little time before hunkering back down to earn my keep. You know, this working for a living bull-bleep has got to stop . . . .

Hi guys. Gosh it is quite hot out. On my lunch break I went to my LBS and I got slapped in the face with humidity. This weather is driving me nuts. It won't stay consistent. At the moment, it's about 90. Tomorrow is going to be a high of 72 and Wednesday is going to be 65. This weather is f*d up. Sorry, that was my little rant on the weather. Besides that, everything is just peachy.

Well, our weather is perfect - like it is for 365 days a year. Just thought you would like to know. Doesn't make you feel better to know that there is somewhere in the world where the weather is wonderful all the time? Even the rain is warm!

See, it helps!
Just got back on the bike this morning after a week with the gripe (that is Spanish for cold or flu). Felt a bit pathetic, but it was good anyway. The ride home will be the real test. Perhaps I will just grab my horse Toro and strap the bike on the back of him and let him drag my carcass up the hill...
What kind of bike carrier fits on a horse?

I love warm rain. When it rains in the summer, my boys know that it is time to get stripped down to just shorts and go play in the puddles with daddy.

Gosh, all this talk about warm rain makes me think about Puerto Rico. From what I can remember, it would rain for like 2 mins and stop for my family lives up in the mountains on the west side of the island. The rain wasn't cold at all either. It was perfect. I would love to go back down there and visit. My father was born and raised there and the majority of my family is down there.

Saturday we did something that was wonderful. We have a really nice wild mountain river at the bottom of our property. Rock with road gravel in the bottom. Many holes are very deep - like 7 feet or deeper. The part of the river that passes along our property is drops of 5 or six feet with runs about 100 feet, and then drops again. deep pools in the runs. In other words, a wonderful place.
A bunch of us when down and hung out in the river. Just swimming and getting wet. The water was just a little cool (oh, and it doesn't change all year - same temp) and very refreshing. So clean you can see down about 5 to 6 feet or more. Lots of boulders to sit on nearly submerged in the river. Or, you swim up to the small waterfalls and let the water beat you to death (known as a massage). You can also find Jaccuzzi kind of pools inside the cascades. All very very neat and super enjoyable. Since it is on private land (ours) there isn't exactly any crowds...
Our friends and (who also work for us) brought coffee and snacks. Amy, my wife, rode to the river on one of our horses. I swam so much that by the time we got back, all of me had that very nice tired feeling. The only time that was a bit spooky was when I went up stream a bit into a very deep hole and had a bunch of wannabee piranah dibbling on me! I guess that is one way to exfoliar!
Do these "warm rains" have something to do with xplody?
if it is xplody or flashy during the warm rain, the jsharr tribe does not go out to play.
