It's jumping and bounding exercises that you can do to increase the 'eccentric contraction' capacities of your muscles. We used to do them for running. We'd do big bounds across the football field and hop up and down on low objects. You should be in fairly good shape, maybe even be doing weight training already as part of your regimen, but it puts a little dynamite in your stride.

Plyometric exercises carry increased risk of injury, and should only be performed by well-conditioned individuals who are under supervision.
 *reeling*
I must be hallucinating. Did Jschen just ask for something to be defined. I feel all woozy and must now go home. ;)
So you should go home sick, getting home 8 hours earlier than you otherwise would. Glad to be of help. :)
Lex and Flippin Sweet, thanks for the explanations.

Meh...everything holds a risk of injury. The first day of your exercise routine, no, you shouldn't be running around doing plyometrics, but if you're reasonably healthy, they're no more injury-conducive than, for example, sprinting on your bike.

AKA I shouldn't be doing it :D
I managed to nearly crack a rib, and was in pain for a few weeks several times, trying to do some exercise that I hope will increase my side abdominals :p

I don't know what the exercise is called.
Anything that involves the ribs and pain is not good, regardless of how long or short it lasts :p

I'm being bored at work. Also, I'm looking up recipes for dinner tonight.

I need someone to build me a Lex doll so I can slip off and sleep and no one will know I'm not here.

What sort of meal are you making? I made crabcakes a few days ago and with seafood chowder. Very yummy.

I thought I induced enough of a headache for you to go home for the day. I guess not. :(

Too many things to do. I will have to tough it out. No one is convinced that my disillusionment is reason to go home. :(

I just got back from lunch and contemplating entering another race this weekend and which bike I should use. I'm leaning towards the fixie and hoping the weather breaks and we get a nice weekend to race.

Heh. I've pretty umuch given up most ambitions of racing. I was thinking I might be fit to race while i was in san anotnio because i found some good hills that I could motivate myself up and down. But I don't have hills here in Hell-town.

It's supposed to get nice here on Friday and stay nice for a long time. I'm hoping this is true. *sigh*

Whenever I've made it, it does take a couple of hours.....which is why it hasn't happened in a long time. *sigh*

Here it went straight from chilly and damp and unpleasant immediately to hot summer in about a day. I had no time to acclimatize. Yesterday's ride was tough...I don't handle heat very well anyway.

The bad thing about that is, when I get home I go to work, (because I'm a work-a-holic) and so stuff usually ends up getting ignored because everybody decides they need help or attention right when the most critical moments are. Last time i made chicken noodle soup this happened. And fronm what I recall my dad saying, timing and order is extremely important with Chicken dumplings

Heat doesn't bother me too much, being that I live in Texas I guess this is kind of to be expected :p, however what gets me is having to come to a stop at the red light. Then you stay there for 30 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes and you're trying to balance your weight on the toe of one foot and its hot. And everything catches up.

I've given up racing ambitions as well, but these aren't typical roadie races. More like an alleycat race with checkpoints and stuff, kinda like a video game. And there's a party afterwards, unlike typical roadie races.

Alleycats are the shizzle...would it be weird to set up an alleycat in a small town? Probably twenty people would show up...what do you guys think? Worth it or no?
I echo p's sentiments. This thread is alive and well this morning! I'm taking a break from work. The annual vendor show is today. Which means there's a nearly endless supply of ice cream bars downstairs. :D Two years ago, I ate something like six of them over the course of the day. Today, I'm about to go get my first of the day. One of my colleagues already finished two so far.

haha 6 in one day! I guess I have to be thankful I'm not a fan of ice cream.
Still though, I'd love to lose some weight and this thread is not helping in the least :p

You race in a lot of alleycats Sweet? If you can get 20 riders down for a race, it'd definitely be worth organizing. Maybe even throw in a party or bike movie afterwards. There was a bike film fest here this past weekend w/ some bike related movies that are different from the usual Breaking Away and Quiksilver type movies.

Well, I've raced alleycats, but I don't normally, because I live in a little town. And in reality, most people have no idea what the whole messenger culture is, but there are a few who ride fixed in town, so it would be a kind of introduction to alleycats to most folks. I'm always down for a party/movie afterward. good idea!

a ****ing 40+ minutes trying to figure out why something i've worked on for a week worked fine in the tests and not in the deployment. After finally figuring it out it took me 10 minutes to fix it. I had alot of BF posting to catch up on :o
