Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm 37, but honestly...I feel like...maybe 30 at the most physically. You're only as old as you feel & think. We have a guy "Sol" in my cycling club who is 79 and still rides with us every weekend. I hope I'm still riding at 79!
The head of the local bike committee is in his 70's and is amazingly active - though he's unable to ride as often as he'd like due to an old crash injury. I hope to be as active that at that age as well.....heck, I wish I was that active now. :D
Lex, We go to Florida on the 15th of June. Can't wait either it should be tons of fun.
We are young and it feels great. I hope I feel this way in 10years. :D
I thought that was earlier for some reason.....I'm going senile.
Yeah, my bf father who is 67 runs 100mile races, 50mile races etc. He is VERY active person and in GREAT phyiscal shape. I hope to be like him as well.
Its truly inspiring to see someone at that age getting out there and doing it.
100 mile races! HOLY SMOKES! That is some good physical shape.

+1 I was NEVER in such great shape when I was 30 and i thought 40 was soooo old, I look better now then before I realise how important taking care of yourself is and I feel much better then when I was 30.

Hey, me too! I saw it last night. I wasn't expecting much, and I didn't get much.

It's a good story, but Tom Hanks was pretty bland in the lead role.

Yes lots of climbing between 12,000 to 14,000 total ft.

I'm surfing and, um, stuff, I guess. Very tired, but I have to call the repair center bacause my damn 2 year-old fridge died on me yesterday. Good thing I don't have too many perishables, I suppose. If I weren't so tired, I'd probably break something. That usually makes me feel better....
Oh, good luck this weekend, BDG! I'll be cheering you on(in my head).:D

Hey there pie man and fellow Fooster! Good to see you posting more often on here again. You seem to have not been around as much lately. Sucks about the fridge. Gotta get it fixed though, especially with the long weekend coming.
Now go have some pie!:p :)

Yea..the only thing I notice, is that I don't bounce back from injuries, sickness as fast as I did in my twenties, but I feel good physically... about a good ten years younger than my actual age.:D

Thanks! Sometimes I put visiting BF off when I get home from work and it turns into 3-4 days.:o I feel a bit better now...mmm, white chocolate m&m's! Unfortunately, I have no pie and the earliest I can get a repair tech out here is freakin' Tuesday! Argh! Time for plan B: Call my dad.:D Oh, and eat some chocolate covered mini donuts.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, CYCLE 17. *grumbling at people who have Monday off and completely forgetting that I had last Monday off.*
I just need to tell you all THIS BIKE PROGRAM IS GOING SO WELL! Just had to scream that. Now that e have the material printed up it's really getting out there and people are really responding well! *YEA!!!!!!*
Glad to hear the bike program is working well, Lex.

Not anymore, unfortunately. :( The temptation of driving a nice car around is just too much.
That said, there's some reason for hope that things might change back in about a month.

Heh. Enjoying the car. What did you get anyways. My memory is fading. Did we ever get to see pics?
if not I demand pics. If so I demand pics again :D
It's weird whenever I think about a car that I would enjoy I see myself in a CR-V or a Honda Element. :( I know that makes alot of people on this forum want to stab me really hard :( but it's my dream

A BMW 330i. No, I never took any pics. Sorry. No camera.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me. I don't care how my car looks. I only care how it drives. And I drive it a lot. I'm about a week away from having owned it for 3 months. By that time, there will be over 5000 miles on it. It partly contributed to my being largely off the bike for 2 months, including a month completely off he bike. I'm back into cycling now, but at least for now, not back into commuting.
Yes lots of climbing between 12,000 to 14,000 total ft.
Yikes! Trying to ride 100 miles with that much climbing is hard enough. I can't imaging running it!
I need to find myself a new job. Can you guys help me brainstorm? I hate my current job (financial services industry).
There are many many things I enjoy doing, but I know I'll prob will have to take a $20k+ paycut if I leave this field.
Things I don't mind working on:
- teaching (i really enjoy the moment when someone finally *gets* something I'm explaining....and surprisingly, I have a great deal of patience)
- cars
- bikes
- motorcycles
- electronics
- construction
- working with animals
- insects
I currently sit all day at work. I'm in my late 20s and I feel that NOW is the time where I should use my body & muscle to get the job done......not my fingers.
I want to see the sun, smell the air at work.....not be indoors 8 - 12hrs/day in front of a computer.
Any ideas?

You, Me Michagander. We go raise haymow floors and barns in ND/MI :D
But ND is WAY too cold for me. How about a city job? I'll move to Houston if you think of something. No one's going to pay me $35/hr for landscaping. I have ZERO experience in landscaping.

have an awesome weekend guys! :) come back on tuesday to tell us all about it!
Awesome ride. Man & machine connected! They're called the ultimate driving machine for a reason.
Yes. Very nice. So communicative and responsive. Such linear responses to inputs. And with pedal and steering effort just right for everything to feel "natural" and "intuitive" when driving hard. My sister tells me that the car's responsiveness scares her a bit (but her boyfriend's Miata doesn't put her on edge), but that she'd happily trade cars with me anytime. :D
I love to take drives on winding back roads. And I'm pleased to report that the OEM tires are holding up surprisingly well given their low treadwear rating of 140 and how hard they've been driven. The car's onboard computer is demanding a very aggressive maintenance schedule as a result of how I've driven the thing (aggressively, but not abusively), but as long as I'm covered by the free maintenance program, that just means less aggressive drivers are subsidizing my habits. :) Since my maintenance schedule is on the aggressive side, I'm probably going to pay for the extension of the maintenance program to 100K miles. If so, I will have to keep up the aggressive driving to take full advantage of the program. :D Current projections call for the 3rd time the brake pads/rotors are replaced, the 4th time the suspension components are overhauled, and the 4th time the emissions controls are overhauled to all occur just before 100K miles. Yes, driving the car the way it's intended to be driven puts lots of wear and tear on the wear items!

jschen - sounds like you've been seduced by the power bug. Hopefully you can return to your senses and re-balance your life. :D
Not true. I've been seduced by the handling bug. :p My family has four cars that go 0-60 in about 6 seconds, so the power in this car is nothing special by our somewhat spoiled standards. (And it even feels slower than the others because the power delivery is so smooth.) But its handling is absolutely sublime. Sure, my mom's MB E500 (my next favorite) shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2's might corner just as hard, but it doesn't have the razor sharp and linear response to driver inputs or the crystal clear feedback. (Of course, that was never the intent of that car.)

Cadd, sounds like car customizing might be right up your alley. You can practice on mine and I won't even charge you for it. :D
Jsc, you got a great car so enjoy it, but you also got a great bike so enjoy that too.
I'm just resting my feet. I took a leisurely 30+ mile ride cuz it's beautiful out and was breaking in a new pair of bike shoes. I have to adjust the cleat position, but other than that, I just have to continue breaking the shoes in.
[e] AAARRRGGGHHH!!! A lugged steel roadbike I was watching on ebay is now at $800. Meanwhile, a newer steel roadie of the same make and model, but not lugged went for less than half the current bid. WTF?!?

Holy crap that was a hard ride!
Did 40 miles, averaged 19...But most of the time we were at 25+ ...There was a section where we were in paceline sustaining 35!!!
When I got home I could hardly walk. i took down a sugared ice tea in like a minute heh!:D

Nice job, hi565! I'll be really impressed when those stats are for an offroad ride, tho.;):p
I'm about to go borrow my dad's ladder so I can clean my gutters out. Yay...not!:( Might even mow the yard again. Hope to start on the garage, as well. All this on just two hours sleep! Yeah, I'm a badass!;)

Okay, garage halfway clean, brush collected and burned, ladder retrieved, trash taken off and now I'm taking a break. Thunderstorm finally showed up so I had to put the gutter cleaning off for a bit. Hoping it might clear up before dark. Of course, if I fall asleep I probably won't wake up before dark anyway. I knew I shoulda done it yesterday....
Chillin' out after work, and getting ready to make the mother of all pasta dinners. Gotta carb up for the ride tomorrow! :D

I'm waiting for my bath to cool down a bit. Don't want to scald my...well, you know.;) Figure I'll have a nice long soak, possibly with a nap. Cleaning the gutters out yesterday evidently required use of my muscles in ways to which they are not accustomed. Might hit my parents hot tub later. I've got a whirlpool tub, but it's just not the same. All in all, it's been a productive(if exhausting) weekend. Now I just need to go hit a trail somewhere....
