Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think I am addicted to my friend's "Erupting Heat Truffles". They are dark chocolate with hot and spicy truffle filling. OMG! I think I have a serious problem....
Hmmm...I know how to make truffles. I just need to figure out the hot & spicy filling...maybe cayenne roasted hazelnuts or something...*off to the drawing board*

They sell large Belgian Chocolate bars at Super WallyWorld for quite ridiculously low prices. They are nearly in the same class as Lindt - for about 1/3 the price. Plain, almond, hazlenut, and crispy (rice).

So today I grabbed my messenger bag and bike and went shopping. Two veggie stores for veggies (what else?), one butcher, one fish monger, and one Chinese market for something that if I described it to you, you would all barf. Actually if I described how it was made you'd all barf. So I won't describe it. Plus it would take a long time. Then I put the bike away and went rollerblading to get some exercise. Since I suck at rollerblading (fell twice) it's actually more work and more exertion for me than riding a bike and hence more exercise. The second fall was in front of a bunch of people, one of whom said, "Maybe you should give it up." Ahhh nothing like encouragement from total iceholes.

You guys are making me hungry, and I had barely anything for lunch due to scheduling. :( I had to give a 30 minute lab tour to some people who might be applying for non-research jobs at my institute. On the bright side, there was a certain prospective future grad student in my small tour group who had come to the institute's career fair just for a chance to get to see the chemistry labs and talk to some of the chemists. Talked to her about the lab and the institute and showed her around for another hour afterward. She's not yet in the San Diego area, but she's hoping to move here. With the medium term goal of ending up in the lab I'm in. I sure hope she ends up in SD. And it would be very nice if she happens to be unattached.
Oh, and this morning, one of my labmates gave me an invitation to her wedding. I know there's not that much space at her wedding, so I'm pleasantly surprised to be invited. But I had to decline since it's on my birthday, and I'm planning on being up in the LA area that weekend.
Chocolate, vomit, and alleged sexual innuendo. Got all the bases covered in these last few pages!

Hello, Bikeforums Nation.
Today it is pouring rain outside in a deluge. I'm beginning to wonder if that storm is just for me.
I returned from the eye doctor's office after he checked my eyes as to what progress had been made since I last saw him about the pressure on my eyes Glaucoma creates. What I learned was that it was up and things are worse than they were before.
He prescribed another type of eyedrop for the nexxt few days to see if that would do the trick. If it doesn't work, the next option is surgery. I felt terrible when I learned the pressure was worse, another thing to disturb my life. Nor do I like the option of surgery, because I will have to remain awake and experience the process. The only hope I have is that the drops he just prescribed will reduce the pressure and eliminate the need for surgery. If surgery is necessary, it will be done by my eye doctor's hands, and he is the best there is in Maine.
I wish my entry could be more upbeat. I guess I sit here with a lot of feelings and emothions about what is happening. The Glaucoma didn't affect me while I was training in the mountains of MDI during the day but would raise its ugly head at night. My eye doctor hasn't discouraged me from doing the Trek. It's that once more my life is interupted and I am faced with limited options to deal with it. Either I take the best options given to me. If I don't, I will lose my remaining eyesight and it will be Trail's End for Powerhouse.
powerhouse, sorry to hear things aren't improving. I hope the new eyedrops do better.
You get her digits kid?
I don't think it's appropriate to be hitting on someone while on official business. She did give me an e-mail address, though. And as with PGS, who knows--she could be married or something. And at the moment, she's up in the LA area (just got there three days ago), though that's expected to be very temporary. She's hoping to get a job in SD and move down here.

jsc: what's w/ pretty & smart girls wanting to move to san diego? maybe i should move there. i hope my wife doesn't mind.
jyo, who said anything about "pretty & smart girls wanting to move to san diego"? I've never mentioned any girls moving to SD. PGS didn't move here. PFGS may or may not move here.
As for what I'm doing... getting my evening's work done. Not much exciting.

I received hate messages from an unactive BF member last night, what was it concerning?Evrything and anything from my race to being french Canadian to a thread I made about my riding partner losing his cool and how I was in the market for a new partner after some of you advised me to find a new one.
The tone of his voice was extremely hateful, mean spirited and degrading. He was clever enough to send his hate messages via yahoo and not bf so that it wouldnt get tracked.
I was very appalled, sadden and in rage that someone could get away with doing this. What right did he have to belittle me the way he did? who is he to me? he is not even someone in my life and the fact that he thought he had some rights into checking my race time, trying to disect it into fitting his notion that I had to lie about being able to ride 21 miles an hour is quite disturbing, not to add all of the other statement he made about you folks encouraging me to find a new partner, he stated that I was out looking for a boyfriend and that I was so slow I would be behing that riding partner at least by 5 miles when we would get to the 18th mile.. This whole thing was beyond ridiculous.
This take a coward to go on the net and arrass someone like this. It's easy and convienient to people like this, They can do as they wish with no concequences. He read every post, he found my name on the race list, and then when on yahoo and proceeded to arrass me.. hum... feels like stalking to me. The net sometimes lets people get away with way too much. mean people s...

That's ridiculous. If nothing else, I'd report it to one of the moderators. Might not really help, as he could be clever enough to re-register, and he also seems to know your name. Possibly if you reply to him and cc his ISP - telling him that you consider his e-mail unwelcome harrassment, and state that any further harrassment will be reported to the authorities... (hopefully some others here will have constructive suggestions).

Pm a mod like Maelstrom and let them know who he is etc. You can block him, and he won't know that he is being blocked, he still can't read your posts but you wont have to read what he types.
I say just ignore it. This person obviously has no life what so ever or is jealous such that he/she has to try to analyze and pick and attempt to belittle somebody else's life to make his look better.

Something similar happened to me once (I think someone hacked a bf member's account, actually). I'd tell the mods, even though it wasn't through a bf pm, because then they know that there was a problem. They can watch out for further harassment. They keep an eye on our community the best they can, and it helps them to know if someone is being a jerk.
Otherwise, I think we should get an angry mob together and hunt the guy down. Let me just find torch and pitchfork...

I'm sorry that this happened to you, Blondie. As strange as it sounds, some very stupid people find doing horrible things like that funny. I wouldn't take it too personally but definitely report the person and try not to let it get you down. There are idiots everywhere and this happens to a lot of people. Just know that most of the people you meet on this site and others are good and friendly people who would rather cut off their whole hand than torture people seriously or as a joke. Stay strong, Blondie.
