Hello Foo.
Been a rough week. Topper is Alberto. No riding since Monday. I -might- be able to ride on Tuesday. Of course, I could ride right now, if I didn't mind the twenty knot wind, rain, and darkness.
Sitting in kitchen, laptop on table. Tired of home office. More room for beer can pyramid. May loose the tomato crop (all nine plants) if wind picks up.
Maybe I'll make a pot of coffee and go buy a pint of Heath Bar Crunch ice cream.

Wassup foosters! It's lunchtime which means it's time to go enjoy the weather before it turns foul tonight. Gonna go for a lunchtime ride and eat a cheeseburger maybe somewhere downtown while watching beach volleyball.

Hey Shadiyah, BDG, Jyoss, F-Sweet and all you other guys and gals. Got the big overnight bike trip this coming weekend with my cycling club. About 180 miles over two days. Yeee haahhh! Right now, it's a boring Monday at work. Shadiyah...how was the belly dancing show BTW??
jyossarian
06-12-06, 11:32 AM
Hey Shadiyah, did you try to relax w/ some yoga before going to bed? The stretching and relaxation breathing may help.
Back from my ride. Skipped the cheeseburger by the beach volleyball pit cuz I rode right past it thinking it was further down. By the time I figured it out, I didn't feel like turning around. Tons of tourists out by the Seaport making that area a ped dodging game. Ride was fun, but all good things must come to an end.
Hey BDG & Sweet, enjoy your weekends!
Shadiyah

Wow! 180 miles! Good luck, I hope I can get to that point someday!
The belly dance show was cool! Some of the dancers were better than others, and Jim Boz rocked! I was very impressed with him! :) I couldn't make it to the workshop, though. Kind of dissapointed, but oh well...gotta save money. :)

I should try that, thanks Jyo! I was into yoga a bit last year and I loved it! I usually sleep ok, but it was just one of those nights. :) I'll try doing some of that next time. :)

Nah... that's too far to ride on a TT bike. :) the new TT bike is about 70% finished. A few parts are paid for, but have yet to come in and my biggest dilemma is I can't decide between all carbon tt bars or aluminum ones. I'm taking one of the OCLVs this weekend. Probably the 5000 since I will be stuck with whatever the weather gods dish out. The interesting part of this is that although there will be a SAG wagon, and a car with everyone's personal items...you ride your bike up there...around the area...and then back to CT. So there's really no "bailing out" unless your hurt or have heat-stroke. Should be fun though. Good riding, good company and beautiful scenery. What more could you ask for.:D
jyossarian
06-12-06, 11:49 AM
Just skitch the SAG wagon and you'll be fine.
Just did a hilly 62 miles, and I'm a bit tired....as much from trying to digest this recovery meal as from riding. Blech. Right after a long ride is NOT when I want to gorge myself, but the body needs it...oh well. Really nice weather in Philly, despite a cloudy mid-day - perfect for being out on the bike! :)
Ride well, everybody!

Some people have tried this in the past. Maybe that's why the sag wagon stays waaay back now.:p

Ahhh...yep. That's correct.
I took next Monday off too, so that will be my mid-afternoon 15 mile "recovery" ride. :D Last summer, I rode 100 miles a day for three staright days just to see what it was like. TIRED....is an accurate description.
At work, I'm the only one here so all I got too do is answer phones for 4 hours. Afterwards, I plan on driving to lafeyette and riding some trails in the briones regional park. Thus, I have my bike in the car. Wewt!!

The first day just under 5 1/2 hours. The second and third days a little over 6 hours. I think If I had to ride another 100 on the fourth day it would have been A LOT slower!

I'm impressed. I could do the first 100 but any 100s after that would have to be scheduled like two months after that first 100. Good luck, Cycle.

Sorry. Co-worker called businesses and forgot that our plan was for me to deliver the advocacy material. So, of course, I had to come back and lick a half a million envelopes. That glue does make us ill, doesn't it. *bleh*

Wow. With a track record like that, you might be able to give Machka a run for her money....that is, if ANYONE can give Machka a run for her money.
Nice avg. speed, as well! You were riding solo? Hilly ride, or flat? Best I can do on my long ride (only 62 miles) is 14 mph avg...15 if I push it. The middle section has some nasty hills, though, and I'm not a fast climber (improving that is my mission right now).

62 miles!!!! Id be more then just a bit tired!!! wow!!!! you got some endurance there! you twin with the energise bunny?:p
Boogs, you're just a bit tired after a hilly metric?! Wow... I usually nap, eat, watch TV for the rest of the day after a ride like that. And go to sleep really early.
I get as much excited by the ride as I get tired...it's that after-ride foodfest that kills me. I'm actually feeling better now, but I'm chilling out watching Italy vs. Ghana on the boob toob. ;)
BTW, anyone else have a harder time getting to sleep after a long ride? I know some distance runners who say the same thing, but haven't heard it as much from cyclists. Once I get to sleep I'm cool, but getting there is harder.
Some people in the roadie forum complain about not being able to sleep after long rides. Me, no way... sleep is about all I can do afterward. And yeah, the after-ride foodfest... that makes me even more sleepy.

Thanks Boogs! That is solo on all three. Were there hills?? It's new england!....where are there not hills!?? LOL Seriously though...it's a mixture. While there are no "mountains" on these routes, there are climbs scattered throughout. 5:20 is the fastest solo 100 I've ever ridden and that was in really good weather in mostly flat conditions. I'm about 15 pounds heavier than last summer right now so I think I'd be a good bit slower if I were to ride it tomorrow and though I'm riding a lot, I'm finding that losing those last pounds has been harder this year for some reason. I think it's becasue my diet has been too liberal this year. But yea...I was pretty beat after three days of back to back to back century rides. But, I was on vacation, so I had the next 7 days to recover. Tonight I think I'm going out for steak.
Well, horror has strucken the land...
I went to go get my bike to ride to an appt, and little did I found out that my tire wsa flat, AND it had a staple in it  :(
Downside: Can't ride, may not be able to make a tire boot so I could miss my appt. that I rescheduled for tomm.
Upside: New Celeste Tires :)
But im still angry that it happend now!
cycle17, you're my hero.
hi565, sorry to hear it. :(
Oh and on the topic of 190 mile rides...I have a month and a half to train for a 192 mile two day event AKA the PMC. I so love school and how its killing my riding time. How lovely! ;)

Oh that sucks! I rode over to a sandwhich joint to meet my bf for lunch today and we noticed that I had a flat as well! It was a little thorn from an alley I went down. Bf changed the tire for me before I finished my salad. What a sweetie! Yes, I'm a newbie and haven't changed a tire yet. I'm going to get a basic tool kit and a few lessons so I can help myself out if that happens again.

Very impressive! :)
Taking a short break.
I got a small box of chocolate from HR this afternoon for giving the lab tour last week. (I got a box last year, too.) So I had a chocolate break earlier. :) The real reason I give the tour is because my professor signs me up for them, so it's not like I really had a choice. (I tried backing out last year, but then when they e-mailed my prof looking for a replacement, it got sent right back to me.) But hey, some chocolate doesn't hurt things.
Of course, this year, I was happy to give the tour just to have PFGS around as eye candy for a while. That was even before I found out she's a chemist who's highly interested in the type of work my lab does. I really hope that she's unattached and that she moves to SD. I don't think she's a cyclist, but I think she could--after a few days to get used to a bike--embarass me going up Baldy. (Or at any other sporting activity, for that matter.) PFGS returned my e-mail today. Kind of terse and business-like, but it did include a "talk to you soon" at the end, so maybe I'll get a chance to see her again sometime after all. Maybe when she next visits the lab, if I'm lucky, my prof will tell me to take a few hours off to show her around La Jolla. He did that before when another prospective future applicant visited. (That time, I even had to take her as my guest to the departmental Christmas party. Too bad our Christmas party isn't approaching.) Unfortunately, in this case, I doubt that my prof will ask that of me.

I am waiting for the wife to stop watching political talk shows / chix flixs / serious dramas. She puts on Amazing police videos and The man Show because she likes them or because it brings me back into the room.
