Anyone else get tomorrow off? :D I do, and it'll also be one of those rare days when I don't have to tend to something in lab on my day off  Now I'm gonna take a shower and go to bed.
I'm back. Thanks to some miscommunication, tennis shoes girl thought I was up at my parents' place already. Well, she and her friends were drinking late last night, so she stayed out near Los Angeles and didn't get up in time, and thinking I was at my parents' place just a few blocks away from her (and thus very flexible in scheduling), neglected to inform me of her change of plans until just before noon, at which point I was already in front of her house. If she weren't a really really good friend of mine, I'd probably be a bit peeved right now. She's really sorry about that, and as a very good friend of mine for nearly 12 years, well, I can let a few things slide here and there. After all, she's always been there for me through thick and thin. Plus, today didn't turn out too bad. (See below.) We'll probably hang out again in two weeks when I'm home to go to a college friend's piano recital.
We meet up to go shopping, and she drags along her sister (who I find much hotter, but I don't know her nearly as well) and a classmate of hers (no interest, and she's currently in a relationship anyway, but hey, a third opinion on jeans never hurts). I try on a lot of jeans (basically every pair in the store we can find in my waist size--inseams to be hemmed later--other than ones that clearly don't suit my dress style) and get three female opinions on every single pair. Narrow it down to eight possibilities. Then three favorites. Then two. Then try slightly different sizes of those two to see which one is the better fit. (In one case, 29 was better. In the other case, 30.) With two extremely good fits, we decide I would get those two. So I now have two new pairs of jeans that need to get hemmed.
Tennis shoes girl's sister and friend seemed to really enjoy themselves in the process of helping me pick jeans. In the course of evaluating whether the jeans looked right on me (hang at the right height on my hips, waistline hugs my body just right, pockets fit properly on my rear, legs flare/taper in a manner that looks natural on me, fabric flows natually as I walk, etc... too many details for me to take in), they managed to throw in repeated comments on my "nice @ss" and slim, fit abs. I don't think I've ever been aware of any girl staring at my rear before. I guess it's a beneficial side effect of cycling.
Tennis shoes girl and her sister hope to help me with future clothes shopping. Fine by me. In exchange, they need some organic chemistry help. That's fine, too. As for romance, sorry, but nothing juicy to report. I'm not against anything developing between me and tennis shoes girl or her sister, but I really don't see it happening. There's just a mutual lack of real interest. (At least at this point in time. But if that's the case after having known each other for almost 12 years, I don't really see it changing.)

Nope, just a normal Monday for me. Enjoy your day off. Have a blast, and try to have enough fun so that I can live vicariously through it, okay? :)

Maybe you should look closer to home. You'll save more on gas. Convince the sister to move closer to you.

Sounds like you had a fun day yesterday, jschen :D I hope you like the jeans enough to wear them often. The toned muscles you get from cycling are deffinitely a nice bonus and if your friends noticed, chances are other women have too :P

I wish I could say I did something fun but I was just being lazy all day. I found this I-don't-know-how-old Trek 920 in my parents' garage that was absolutely dirty and rusty so I had to clean it up. The degreaser I used was quite strong though and my hands and nails paid for it  I think I'll hijack it and use it for running errands, going to the movies and such. I wish I had the heart to just take it apart so that I can finally learn more about how things work. Unfortunately I know about bikes almost as little as I do about cars :(

Yeah, yesterday was fun once I got over the last minute change of schedule. Once the jeans are hemmed to give the right length, they'll probably become my default pants for non-lab, non-formal situations. They're very comfortable, and evidently, they look great on me. And if I complete the Breathless Agony (http://www.cyclingpros.com/onyx.htm) century in May, tennis shoes girl (TSG) will take me shopping for nice shirts to go with the nice jeans. Hopefully, TSG's sister will tag along again. :) In between, they also want to make subtle changes to my hair. TSG called me today to make sure I was getting my jeans altered sooner rather than later, preferably in time for when I visit the LA area in two weeks.

Oh well, that's not a bad way to spend a day once in a while. It's pretty quiet in the lab today. People are here, but we're working basically as if it's a Saturday rather than a full-fledged weekday work day. Well, except we're actually here a full day.

Alright! From what I'm reading so far, I'd say the sister's very likely to come along. Go get'er, jschen! :D

Uh, pics! pics! (No, I'm not gay! :o Just that I've never even heard of custom fitted jeans. I always buy $15 cargo pants from walmart.)

:roflmao: I expect that if she's not busy with something, little sis will come along. I really don't believe little sis and I are compatible, but it doesn't mean we can't hang out sometimes. :D
Uh, pics! pics! (No, I'm not gay! :o Just that I've never even heard of custom fitted jeans.)
Oh, they just have to be shortened. No other alterations. All the fitting other than length was done by trying on endless pairs of jeans with three females reaching an agreement as to what looked right and what didn't and me having veto power (only used once on a pair that was not comfortable enough to justify its price).
EDIT: Okay, maybe after TSG and her sister get through with my hair and my shirts, then I'll look into posting some pics.
What do they want done with your hair?

OK, sounds like we got a few months. JSChen, what's your plan for wooing TSG's sister (TSGS)?

i'm replacing much needed calories for tomorrow dammit! don't be ragging on my ice cream! bloody ice cream nazi <mumble, mumble>
What do they want done with your hair?
They believe my part line should be moved about 1.5-2 cm toward center. And my combing technique evidently needs some work. That, and the lengths of hair can be fine-tuned a bit.
JSChen, what's your plan for wooing TSG's sister (TSGS)?
No plans to woo TSGS. She's really cute and fun to hang out once in a while, and she's one of the rare people with hands softer than and warmer than mine, but seriously, no interest. I certainly don't mind hanging out with her, and being single, I can do so guilt-free, but I have stronger interest in other people at this point in time.
As for being on topic, I'm in a lull in setting up my last reaction (have a one hour wait, can wait longer if I prefer) for the day and contemplating dinner plans. With it being a holiday, I'm thinking of taking more than an hour and going out for dinner rather than eating hospital food.
I just ate a Little Debbie Apple Pie. 50 cents apiece and only 4.5 grams of Trans Fat! It's got 28% daily total fat and 25% daily saturated fat. I just opened a can of Dew and I'm gonna eat a second pie in a few minutes. Damn, I'm probably gonna die of a friggin heart attack when I turn 30!
With it being a holiday...
Oh man, I didn't even realize it was Presidents' Day today!
lol you and your obsession with ice cream
What's wrong with ice cream? I once tried to eat it for dinner. Bought a quart of ice cream, a really rich and creamy French vanilla from Toscanini's, a nice ice cream chain in Boston. (Not sure if they're anywhere else.) Ate about 70% of it before I decided continuing may not be such a bright idea since I was getting a severe case of brain freeze.
Hmm, maybe I'll have ice cream for dessert. Okay, off to dinner. Going to my favored local bar/grill/restaurant again, but no beer tonight... gotta get back to work later.

I didn't have ice cream for dinner! It's my dessert. I had a skirt steak for dinner. mmmm...steak and ice cream....
at this place down the street, theres this dessert called bananas mud foster that is like one ginormous slice of banana/vanilla ice cream shaped like a cheese cake with carmel in in the ice cream along with bananas on the bottom and a load of whip cream on the top:):)
Well right now im all dressed up for school and probably will leave in 10 minutes since its late arrival order:D Ug I a load of spanish homework to do and I have to probably finish it in the car since it takes me 45min to get to school. That means no sleeping:(
Anywhoo im trying to quickly finish downloading a few songs to put on my mp3 before i have to leave.
Oooooooooooooooohhh...
I hadn't seen this thread.
Mmmmmm....ice cream....
I'm sitting at my desk drinking coffee and starving because I'm afraid to eat thanks to a rather nasty and somewhat violent flu bug that kept me home yesterday. *sigh*

Oh no! Get better soon!
I'm at work, working. (What a concept!) My thin layer chromatographic run is going, and its results dictate my actions in my bulk run, so I get a quick break (2 min). And sending off a quick e-mail to a friend to follow up on an unexpected phone conversation two weeks ago when she really needed to talk to me for about four hours to make sure she's doing okay.
Thanks guys.....just need a few days and then I'll be all set to stay up all night while the kid has this bug. :D

Lex - Go to the grocery store and get yourself some of that Chystallized Ginger. It's a lot cheaper in the bulk aisle or in the produce dept. Take a size that is about a 50 cent piece and boil it down in a sauce pan, enough to make a couple of cups of tea. Sip that slowly. You should feel better. Give some to the kids before they get sick. It should help with the nausea and stomach cramps. If you don't have access to make tea (for example at work or in the car) consume a piece the same size and SLOWLY sip room temp water. Not too much water, just a little to get the hotness of the ginger cleansed from your mouth.
This is an old Chinese secret that has never failed. And I'm not even that Chinesey!
Try that out and let me know. Hope you feel better.

Hope you feel better real soon Lex, I had a little bug last week and am sympathetic.
I just finished putting my new Cateye computer on my roadie, so I can put my old Sigma back on my mtb. Now I have an hour and a half to kill before I go to my daughter's school for a parent-teacher conference.

Don't forget to add bruised lemongrass stalks (the bruising releases the juice inside), cayenne peppers (or similar hot peppers), aloe vera and honey. Better to use ginger root chopped up. This is an ancient West Indian secret for helping you survive the flu and works really well on colds. The honey's just to help it go down easily. And I'm not West Indian, but I grew up in a West Indian neighborhood.
jschen is lithium more explosive than potassium??
Well, neither is explosive alone. If you want contact explosives, I can think of far nastier stuff. Potassium is far more reactive with water, if that's what you're asking.

Eating ice cream again. And watching the olympics.
Yum, ice cream. Time to grab some dinner before finishing work. As I didn't cycle in this morning (had to drop off the car to get it checked), I'm stuck with hospital food for dinner.
Wrapping up work early since I'm dependent on my coworker tonight for a ride home, and he's headed off soon. Then I'll prep my commuter bike for commuting since tomorrow's my first commute this week (it's currently on my trainer) and also call my parents to discuss what to do about my car.
On the bright side, an early end to the day for a change. :D

Sorry if you've posted this already, jschen, but what's the matter with your car?
Anyway, women's figure skating's on right now which I'll (somehow) miss, but speed skating should be fun to watch :]
It's in the car recommendations thread, but thanks to some debris I ran over late last week, I have about $5K worth of damage in a car worth about $6K. Hit some unidentified large lump, apparently metallic, sitting in the middle of the lane late at night, and managed to hit it right down the center of the car. Cracked steering linkage, damaged transmission mount, broken front crossmember, damaged one of the front rims (from the impact of landing after going over the lump), cracked transmission case. Hopefully, insurance will help cover the loss, but regardless, I'm not interested in fixing it. Too high a repair cost for too low a value. Someone else with more patience can fix it. I'll get what I can for it and go find myself a new car. :D (You'll find the car recommendation thread has basically turned into a conversation between jyo and me.)
It's very poor timing, but not much I can do about it. Oh well. Get some advice from my parents, test drive this weekend, hopefully buy next weekend. And in the meantime, get my finances together to pay cash for the thing... I refuse to borrow money for a car if it's anything more than bare-bones transportation. Parents might help a bit, but I'm not asking for the help. My budget, timeframe, and means of payment don't change if they help.

Excuse me for being late, Jschen, but did you notify CalTrans? A neighbor of mine ran into a sign that blew into the lane and did some pretty good damage. She called them and they took care of it. And it wasn't because the sign belonged to them. An employee of mine had their car splattered with a fine mist of white paint (from who knows where) while driving on the freeway and for some reason they covered that, too. They are (from what I was told) responsible for driving hazards and must keep the roads clear and safe.
Im crying because no one posted in my thread.
