So I finaly got my hands on an old road frame to build up. It has semihorizonal drop outs. I plan on welding on trackends.Should I use track drops with a built in bottle opener,or mount a traditional opener on the down tube for the seat?

So your vote is for the traditional seat tube mount?

Are you for reals? You can find that at any grocery store here.

p.s. that's the best idea ever.

how good pbr tastes is directly proportional to how big of a container you're drinking it out of. It tastes best in metal, then plastic then glass. From best tasting to least best tastin:

Kegstand
Tallboy
12 oz can
Solo Cup
Beach Friendly Plastic Twist off bottle
40 oz
Pub glass
glass bottle

you should mount a tap on it, then your bike could host keg parties.

i never drink it in bottles...pint glasses at the bar, 40s (but rarely), and most of the time when i drink it, i'm a show with a 12 pack of it in my backpack...i call it a "backpack beer bar".

Yeah, in Philly, if you want to bring beer home, you have to go and buy it in a bar. :) :o

just smash the neck off on your top tube, and pour it down.

I was watching "The Greatest Show On Earth - (The Story of The 1974 Giro d'Italia)". In that race, the "Water Boys" are allowed to raid any of the convenience stores on the route, and make off with whatever soft-drinks they can carry. There followed a sequence when one chap was riding along, attempting to open a bottle by trying to knock the cap off using the top of the stem as an anvil. After many unsuccessful attempts, he eventually opened the bottle with his teeth! Arrrrggggghhhhh!

you should weld a bottle opener to a barend plug so you can pop the top while you ride.

Isn't it easier to just carry a 50 cent bottle opener?

just get a wall mounted opener, they're pretty standardly sized holes that fit the water bottle mounts if you have some on your conversion.

distributor is way cheaper than buying it at a bar. i would think on any normal occasion anyway.

Just to add my two cents. I think it makes your functional piece of art brilliantly special. I think it's just cool. Well done!

exactly. god forbid you need some alcohol for home and it's after 10. it feels a little bit like heaven when I visit other cities and there's alcohol for sale in pretty much every store you go in.

the opener part may need to extrude more, but here you go.
this way it wouldn't be dangerous, and if it worked like a regular set screw one, it could be pretty cool.

oops, in case no one knows what that is, it's a bar end opener. duh.

not as hip as bending over to pop a bottle off your trackends 14" off the ground. no street cred

I like the bar end opener idea the best so far. I will get to work on it.Maybe I can modify a starnut to fit inside my bar or something. I will post some pics and details when I get it done.

just stick to beers that have the opener in the bottom of the bottle you just finished... annd never stop drinking.. problem solved..

(for the geeks.. i believe its called the "punt" of the bottle.. but thats wine.. but if its indented for an opener.. then itd be slightly "punted".. no?)

humancongereel
02-04-06, 11:23 PM
what beers are those? do they come in 40s?

That is just too cool, but having a sticky mess on the hubs and spokes could get old after a while.
