Track Cycling - Phil hubs for track.

I recently got a good deal on my phil hubs but quickly got to realizing that thesemay be too heavy for track . Are they suitable for racing. This will be my first season but i still hope to be competitive.

They are not the weight reduced model. Just single sided phil hubs. Let me know.

If they spin well, you should be fine.
Weight typically is not as big a factor on the track(relatively flat) as it is on the road where you often have to climb hills.

Its strenth you want on track. From my understanding Phils hubs are extremly strong. If only I was rich....

Yeah, weight's not really an issue on the track, except that it's not too hard to make your bike come in under the limit and have to add weight somewhere.

If they're smooth and reliable, use them.

Phil's are really nice for track. The allen-key bolts on the rear axles occasionally aren't enough to keep your rear wheel from slipping, but you can upgrade to the conical BMX bolt assemblies that Phil sells, and those are bulletproof. They also avoid galling of aluminum or titanium stay-ends. Also, you can get any exotic drilling or slotting you might want, so if you want hubs to build 24 spoke Zipp 360's on, Phil can supply them. And there's no better service anywhere than what you get when you call Brent.

By the way, Phil got a knock for the stiffness of their bearing seals. Well, they responded both with a black bearing (black seals instead of red ones) that are extremely smooth and supple (and don't cost extra if you order them when you get the hubs) and also some ceramic bearings (at considerable upcharge). I'd just go with the black ones -- they roll better than any loose bearings. Very nice.

Get yourself some ceramic bearings for your forumula's.....I think you wont feel the need to upgrade anymore. :)
