Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - First Bad crash...I feel so alive

Haven't posted for a few months, but anyone in the Santa Monica area who happened to be driving down Olympic around 4:15 would have had the good fortune of seeing me flying down the street on my steamroller, hit a patch of loose gravel where the asphalt meets the sidewalk, and eat **** big time, ****ing up my front end and giving me some oh so cool injuries.

To add insult to injury, there were about twenty cars waiting at the light, witnessing my feat of skill.

To add even more insult, a sweet little old lady pulled up to me and rolled her window down, asking if I were ok. I smiled whilst biting my lip, legs gusing blood, thanked her for noticing, and said "happens all the time." and limped off to the fence like it aint no thang.

last night i had my first complete fall while riding fixed. i'm not sure if it was the black ice or the ripped toestrap. ha ha. luckly, i was going about 3 miles an hour. the only thing i bruised was my ego.

interesting way to look at it, have a really bad crash and feel alive.

I remember I tried to do a trackstand at the stoplights and fell to due to my cluminess and lack of know how. Quiety left the scene of my blundering quickly thereafter.

first time out fixed and strapped in i forgot to pull out at a red light and tried to throw a trackstand out of nowhere (id never tried to do one before). 0 mph fall.

Sounds nasty.

Glad you are allright. Crashing and not dying is a good reminder that there is an element of risk in riding a bike on the street. And that makes us safer.

I think it's better to enter at ground level. My maiden voyage on a fixie was about two feet forward, one foot back, six feet down. Oh! The back pedal just keeps on coming up! I was in my driveway. At least I didn't hear anyone laughing. Knee hurt for a couple of days.

one time when trying a trackstand at a light, some guy pulled up next to me and i wasnt too trackstand savvy yet, so i tried to look up and around but instead i fell on this guys hood and he was kinda just like 'wtf HAHAHA, tool.' just got up, laughed, and rode away.

I have been pondering the same thought lately. i have had 2 slightly bad crashes in the last few weeks (damn you, inebriation!) my left leg has taken a beating, and despite all that, i am exhilertated to share my comic fumbling/scares and have found a new excitement about riding:) Does that mean im addicted to the endorphine rush? and what's up with "us" that brush off injury as if its no big thing?
