Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - The "**** Curing Cancer, Support Our Alcoholism" Tour 2006

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Shants and Teadoggg will be embarking on their first tour- a three state, 500 mile tour, from Chicago IL to Columbus OH (or do it the other way around). It is scheduled for April 10 - 15, 2006. They will be touring fixed-gear, sleeping in cornfields, barns, boxcars, and gutters. After the long days (8hr+) of riding, cans of warm CAMO will be consumed in mass quantities. black out, vomit, pass out, wake up, ride, then repeat.
--------
The route is largely 36 down to Indianapolis and then route 40 into Columbus, OH. If you live along the route, you should meet up and get us drunk. If you want to donate stupid **** for us to wear, we'll wear the hell out of it and take a ton of pictures. There will be a complete, and very disturbing, picture set at the end of the trip.

I will send you diapers along the route, and some ramen. I think I will make some bikini-wear for you both out of clear plastic tarps.
Plan your trip around post offices, like the App. trail. That way, people can mail things to you via the POs.

Good luck. I did a 500 mile tour last June and found it too cold some evenings to be camping. April? No way.
you aren't hardcore enough.

I was in Ohio over xmas and went camping - It was zero degrees when I woke up, and I was warmish. You just have to know how to do it. I've been camping in all conditions more times than I can remember. It's easy.
and shants and I will probably share a sleeping bag. naked, of course.

besides - have you ever drank enough CAMO to pass out? Trust me, we won't feel a damn thing.

I didn't know you were going fully loaded. As an employee of a mountaineering company I definitely know that cold weather camping is a popular passtime.
Also - camping by the side of the road isn't as simple as it sounds. even in northern michigan I had a hard time finding places to camp. When you map your ride look for state game/state park areas.
i will camp in a farmer's bed, so long as he's paying for the services rendered.

Sean, You're going to have to trust me on this one – I know what I’m doing. I've camped more times off the sides of roads than I've ever camped in a campground. Here's a short list of wierd places I've camped overnight I found within 300ft of the side of the road.
A boxcar (twice), abandoned house, abandoned barn, park, behind a fire station, under a bridge, various fields, a house that was under construction, ditch, an abandoned jail in some ghost town, the side of a river, back of a parked semi, and a few others. I’ve only had “encounters” twice. Once with a very friendly Canadian police guy who just wanted to make sure we weren’t littering, and another time some hikers who wanted to make sure we weren’t dead.
I’ve pretty much mastered the urban/stealth camping thing.
I refuse to pay for camping.
