Since you are most likely not from the USA, I would suggest Adventure Cycling routes. They have two.

1. Goes from Colorado to Oregon thru Yellowstone. Cooler, longer.

It really depends on where on the coast you want to end up - it is very long from north to south (approx 1000 miles). Southern Calif, Northern Calif, Oregon, Wash, etc.As Jamawani mentions, Adv Cycling has a couple of routes, and there are additional ways possible. If you give us an idea where your destination is along the coast, we can suggest some possible routes.

No, I grew up in Oregon --- it should be beautiful at the end of the summer -- warm, sunny, gold-to-green vegetation (depending on location), not much rain. Oregon is a real delight to bike through in general, but particularly when you can do it outside of the rainy season (which is basically the other nine non-summer months of the year). Also, the roads (with wide shoulders and bike lanes), vast state and national parks, excellent campgrounds, and friendly people are all highly amenable to bikers. I strongly recommend it.

Utah and Nevada would be very hot in August, and there are long stretches in both states where it would be difficult to find water or food.

Going through Oregon would mean a long detour, but you would pass through some very pretty country. How much time do you have? From Oregon it would be fun to follow the coast south to San Francisco. The Pacific Coast Highway (CA State Highway 1) from just south of Eureka to San Francisco is very scenic.
