so, i've made a couple of cycling caps in the last two days and i figured that i would post pictures of my second (out of two) and best one. it's made from a wool suit coat and is ****ing lined (same lining that was in the jacket. i like a slightly longer bill on my cycling caps (you see some from the 70s and 80s that are like this), so this cap reflects that. i can make them smaller, though. in any case, i am going to start selling them soon, but this post isn't about that. i have to get my process down a little more so that i am more efficient and make a web site, but yeah. you'll be seeing my **** soon.

here it is (i look like a ******bag in this picture - just pay attention to the hat):

i'd be into having a cotton one. can you do ear flaps?

mattface
02-05-06, 05:07 PM
that looks great. I wouldn't use wool for the inner band. Cotton duck or poly ribbon would be my choices.

You should pick up some Harris tweed jackets at resale shops, and use em complete with label. A Harris Tweed cycling cap that'd be the ****!

I'd be down for supporting an individual trying to make a few bucks and dually making me look pretty when I'm riding.
If you can make one suitable for Texas (as in, unlined) and in a breathable material, I would be interested.

That is a sweet cap. I am a sucker for maroon.

I just bought a handmade cap off of ebay awhile ago, but I would really want one of your caps when you sell them (well... if you make one from a non-wool fabric or faux wool).

I like the lining :D.

Very cool.

Don't bother, he still owes me back for that rimjob I gave him last month. That being said, I want one.

Nice! I'd definitely consider ordering a wool one. I would be skeptical of how well that suit liner wicks though.

MLPROJECT

didn't you say these will be like $300/each? only making them in harris tweed, reconstructed burberry suits and polo hand cableknit sweaters?

Doctor Who

Tweed or standard plaid would be hot.

Give me a holler when you're ready to accept an order.

shants

headband not being wool/etc

the hat isn't actually wool at all. the suit coat fabric has a similar consistency, but i'm relatively certain that this isn't wool, which is why i went ahead and did the headband from the material. it doesn't itch at all, and i usually have huge problems with wool. this hat, in general, was just a test to see what i could pull off. lining the ****er was a pain in the ass, etc.

I'm loving the idea. I've got this great Pea green Harris Tweed that I love that's never gonna fit me again. I might just take inspiration from your project, and turn it into hats. The best one gets the label.

Put me on the waiting list shants for one of your hats.

this picture is an awful cropped camera phone job, but it should suffice:
http://www.chemicalwarfare.net/~apratt/doom.jpeg
i made this goofy hat last night from a fairly thin cotton (yeah, it'll breathe) and an old doom (crust as ****!) backpatch that i had lying around. it doesn't sit as deep on the head and has a smaller bill than the other that i posted yesterday. it's not lined and is more like the type that i'll be generally selling in the upcoming months, because it's more suited for warm/hot weather. yeah.

02-07-06, 09:31 AM
did you make the pattern from scratch or did you do some deconstruction to figure it out?

benny
02-07-06, 09:36 AM
DOOM RULES! Some of that old crustpunk was soo good. Assuck being my favorite!

shants
02-07-06, 09:55 AM
i guessed and did some really minor deconstruction to confirm my pattern.
