Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Another Bareknuckle Geometry Thread (Standover Height)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

First off, I already read through all of the bareknuckle posts and couldnt' find this information. I was wondering if someone who has one can provide the standover height for the 54 and 56. I called EAI and they won't give out all the angle geometry, and they don't have the standover heights calculated already (I doubt they'd have a problem giving that out if they had it). This would help out a lot, I normally ride a 57 in road geometry, and no LBS stock it so I have to special order.
Also, as a side note (without trying to distract you all from the more important question ^^^), anyone have an idea why they wouldn't want to give out the geometry, especially since they seem to sort of have a reputation for causing sizing issues? I'm not referring to not publishing standover height, I know that's not too common to see, but what would be behind keeping st/ht angles secret?

"proprietary"
a few bike companies do this. it's utter bs, and causes needless problems like yours

couldn't you just measure these anyway? its not like they're a mystery when someone has a frame in front of them...

yea, of course, but if you don't have one to hand you can't figure out necessary info like what the op needs to know.
the only people it affects is prospective customers; if a rival company was planning to make a bootleg bareknuckle they'd have no hesitation in purchasing one and doing the relevant measurements, so keeping them a secret is pointless and counterproductive.

I agree. I was hoping someone could think of a good reason, it's obviously not going to keep competition from getting ahold of it. It sucks but of course that doesn't stop me from wanting that frame, so hopefully someone on here who owns one or even an online retailer can help me out with getting it.

I have 54 and the standover is 31"ish. ..maybe 31 1/2.
I called EAI asking for the same information a month or so ago. The guy I spoke with said that they basically asked a builder in Italy to make a frame with "traditional track geometry". The way this guy was talking, it's not that EAI won't give out the geometry, but rather that they just don't have it. Strange, if true.

I thought that is what Bareknuckle was... maybe they dont have that information because they followed the above advice with a Colnago (or insert "Your favroite track frame" here).
;)
Really who cares, as long as you ride what you like. I'm sure Bareknuckle frames are rad, and most of all they're priced right!

yea i'm sure they're terrific. no-one has anything bad to say.

True, that sounds like it could be the case, but still, they should be able to measure it themselves even if they can't be exactly accurate, and I would expect them to do that considering the requests they get for it.
I think opting for the smaller would be in your best interests. Oddly enough, the standover for the Bareknuckle's are on the high side. I ride a 53 optimally but can ride a 54 or a 52 but there is no way I can standover a 54. It feels like a 55/56 to me. Incidentally, two people I know who are the same height ride a 50cm! Which feels like a 52.

+1
I rode a friends 54 over christmas break and the standover was snugger than any 56 that I've ridden.
Very nice frame. I'm sure they would sell more of 'em if customers could get some accurate measurements. Its not like you walk into your LBS and they have 5 of 'em built out in various sizes that you can test ride.

The more I hear, the more I think 54 IS right. The 57 road frame I currently have just barely gives me one inch clearance (with shoes), and it's standover is about 32", although for me barely an inch is plenty of clearance and any more than that and i might feel wierd. I've always liked having a long reach, but I guess a 56 would just be too big, period, and the bareknuckle seems to have longer top tubes in proportion to the seat tube on the 54 (54/55.5). Of course anyone who's ridden one of these in 54 or 56 feel free to post your opinions for further assurance.
I'll post some measurements if I can get any accurate ones from having the bike in front of me once it comes in on the boat from italy in a few weeks.
I posted this in another thread about this topic, but didn't get any feedback, so pardon the redundancy. One thing I noticed on the Business Cycles (http://www.businesscycles.com/nessuno.htm) page was that the sizes are measured center-center. It seems like most frames are measured center-top. Case in point: my LBS has a Bareknuckle that they call 57 (measured center-top), but it has the same center-to-center measurements for seat tube and top tube as a 54 "Nessuno".
It seems like this could account for the sizing discrepancies that people are describing. So, if you tack on 3cm to the listed size to account for the seat tube extension, how do the measurements compare to other track frames? Is this already obvious to everyone else?
I have a 54 bk and the stand over is high I don't have the measurement in front of me but it is tall like a 56.
I also think the top tube is short, I felt a bit too close until I put on a 120 stem now its tight...in the cool kind of way.
Im 6' have a 34" inseam and the 54 is perfect for me.
Just dont get a pink one...b/c black is the new pink that was the new black

I'm still waiting on my frame, but someone from euro asia gave me the geometry for the 56. They aren't trying to be secretive, they were never given the info from the builder until recently.
seat angle 73.5
head angle 75
head tube 167
38 fork rake

I am thinking about purchasing the EAI Bare Knuckle too. Either that or a Soma Rush(any objections?). The info I got for a 54cm c-c EAI Bare Knuckle is: 55cm/21.65in. Top Tube Length..........74 degrees Head Tube Angle..........75 degrees Seat Tube Angle..........15cm/5.90in. Head Tube Length.
My question is this. Does anyone know or can find out what the chainstay length, bottom bracket drop and frame weight is? These are really the only two vitals Im missing that are keeping me from making my decision. I have all the specs for the Soma Rush. Maybe thats saying something, should I go for the Rush instead?

So not to confuse the issue.....EAI Bare Knuckle Chainstay Length, Bottom Bracket Drop, and weight. Also, Soma Rush vs. EAI Bare Knuckle (without price being a factor).

I don't want to hijack or anything but I figured I'd save a new thread since should have a pretty simple non-subjective answer.
I have an inseam of 33 inches. Does this mean I want to look for something with a standover height of 33 inches or should I add the 2 inches of extra space and look for something with a 35 inch stand over?
Thanks
