I just acquired an 87 Schwinn Super Sport along with a box of parts that go with it. The rear wheel has been converted for fixie use. What I need to know is, how many gears did this bike have when it was new? Freehub or Freewheel(my guess because of the threaded "neck")? Rear spacing is 126. And what are my options gear wise (6,7,8,9 speed etc..) with friction shifting or with index shifting (original shifters are Shimano 600).
Direct links to particular products are appreciated : )

Answers to many compatability questions can be found on this site.
7 speed freewheels are available... yours probably came with 5 or 6.
Someone with real knowledge will be by shortly to be specific.
The 126mm spacing suggests a 6-speed screw-on freewheel, but you may be able to substitute a 7-speed unit, which officially requires 128mm. Stick with friction shifting, as indexing will restrict your options considerably.
