I went into the post office the other day and noticed there are a bunch of stamps commemorating a bunch of people, places and things. But guess what? No cycling stamp!

How much does the USPS spend on the sponsorship of the team and Lance specifically?

Why not do a commemorative stamp for Cycling, the USPS Team, or Lance, or the Mailloux June 4x winner, or Lance Armstrong Federation, or.....?

Why No Stamp?

Heck, I'd even spend an extra penny a stamp to see cycling represented on everything I mail out via snail mail!

Because a fit, lean winning Lance is more
threatening to the U.S. public than a fat
out of shape Elvis?

Because Lance isn't dead. USPS requires that people on stamps must be dead, maybe for a certain length of time. Elvis is on a stamp not because his is/was fat and out of shape, but because, rumors and various sightings notwithstanding, he is dead.

Someone in another thread on cycling books named a book devoted entirely to cycling stamps!

Yes, why not?

Well, let's see. In other countries (that have issued bicycling stamps) bikes are very common. Everyone owns one.

In the USA SUVs are everywhere. Only a small minority own bikes.

'Nuff said!

On the wall of my office I have a framed first day of issue U.S. cycling commemorative stamp. I believe it is a 50 cent stamp. Next time I'm there, I'll check the date of issue.

I've received some junk mail with a bulk rate stamp that is a drops and stem shot of a bike.Hard to tell what it unless you really look at it but catch one and its pretty cool.

Not the stamp I referred to above, nor the one mentioned by hillyman, but a third USPS issued cycling commemorative issued in 1996 is mentioned on this website. (http://stamps.pinedafamily.net/1996/News/96064stp.htm)
