My favorite accessory on my 1970 UO-8 is my period-correct cylindrical nylon Bellwether bag, but it's starting to rot with age. Does anyone make anything similar today?

I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel like I'm starting to rot with age as well. I may have something similar in the garage - I bought some remnants from a bikestore last winter. Is is a big cylinder or a smaller one - and does it have a foam stiffener?

EMS sells this one (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442044683&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302847378&bmUID=1139284855365)

I have it on one bike as a seat bag for a brooks saddle. It works fine but is not a really stiff packcloth so it deforms with weight in it. I may try cutting a plastic bottle and put it in the bag so it will hold it's shape better

I have owned both the larger version, which straps around the brake handles, and the smaller one, which has two loops similar to velonomad's posted picture. The smaller one has a thin styrofoam sheet stiffener, which works surprisingly well, and I use the bag with a small aluminum rack which slips under the stem and over the tops of the bars.

Thanks for the post. That's pretty close to what I want, although bright red would be nice. Perhaps I can transfer my styrofoam sheet stiffener to the new bag.

You may not like this--but Wal-Mart is selling a cylindrical Schwinn Chopper bar bag--not sure how that would look on a UO-8 or Capo!

Here is the measurements .since they are not on the website 4.5" diameter, 8" long Distance between the straps center to center is 3.5", straps are 3/4" wide. The zipper goes the full length of the bag.

I have seen a few of the older Cannondale cylinderical bags on Ebay occasionaly. some guy in Rhode Island sells them every few months.

I remember having a red one with a foam stiffener on my PX10 back in the late '70's.

Hey Fixer, thanks for the Rivendell link. Note that the bike shown with the front pack has MY color scheme (red w/ white head tube). Classic! :)
