Has anyone had any luck with fenders on racing bikes? (Man that sounds taboo). I am commuting on an old racing bike that fits me perfect, and I don't want to shell out any more cash for another more appropriate bike for commuting.

That being said, there isn't much clearance between my wheel and my downtube, but I would really like to get a fender to keep most of the muck off my feet. All the fenders I see are large ones for MTBs and would never fit.

Any suggestions would be appriciated!

I think there is a fender that straps to the downtube. It seems like that would work for you.

Ive thought about those, but its not much different than the downtube itself. Ideally, I want something that follows the curve of the wheel a little bit better, so most of the spray is contained.

In most places that I get the speed to really need the fender, the road is straight for the most part, so I don't get any spray in my face since the downtube takes care of that.

As for my rear, the pannier rack takes care of any spray and prevents me from getting a skunkback.

I'm a big fan of CKS fenders, and they come in a very broad range of sizes. Mounting may be troublesome, as I believe they require an eyelet on the fork to mount.

SKS make a thin one which is suitable up to 28mm.
