Looking for decent pedals for a bent but don't want clipless, straps etc. I guess I am looking for platforms?
cages?
Or BMX pedals. What I used the first 300 miles on my machine.

The BMx pedals with the little pins allow for no movement at all. They caused me a lot of knee problems. I would recommed the large Bear Claw pedals for hold but still allowing movement.

I've got mtb quills with toe clips and straps. I have never made the traansition to clipless on any of my bikes. Not racing, I can't justify the high price of using clipless pedals and shoes. I am also totally nuts and have put trail tires on my bent. I'm running that thing off-road this summer.

The BMX pedals I used had no pins and were in the sub $20 range, had a big platform that was ideal for new riders or riders who don't wish to get into bike shoes, clips/cleats/straps. I use Lyotard Berthets on my ATB with toeclips.

Nashbar sells some nice platforms. Some with removable
spike grippers some without. I bought the removeable
spike grippers as they hold my foot very well.

The serrated old style metal pedals allow for movement while still griping. Take the pins out of a BMX pedal and they are slippery with nothing to hold your foot especially if it is wet. Leave the pins in and they hold too much. They do look cool and they come with nice sealed bearings.
Rat trap style ("old style") pedals on my first good DF bke managed to chop a pair of tennis shoe soles in half over several months. Not as likely on a bent because less weight on the pedals but they will go through standard rubber soles. I never had a problem with slipping with the non pinned bmx pedals I used, with 'comfort' type ATB shoes that I still use, now with cleats.
