I would like an understanding of what all the parts of a bike are and what they are used for, also like nicknames for them because for the most part i have no idea what anyone is talking about (i.e. pegs, pads, bars, etc.)

Hi Rob, you might try a search for various parts on this forum, as one post to answer all your questions would be impossible.

www.parktools.com will also have detailed instructions as to what is what on a bike.

Rob,
Roadbikerider.com has a good glossary of terms, more riding related than mechanics. If you are thinking in terms of working on your own bike, a good bicycle mechanics book is a must. I like Bicycling Magazine's Complete Guide to Bicycle Maintenance and Repair. Others have recommended Leonard Zinn's book, something like Zinn and the Art of ...

As someone else posted, Sheldon Brown's articles are must reads.
