I know the Ritchey Z-max are incredible tires and i like them very much.
But its time to try some new rubber goodies! , which kind of tires are specific to sand conditions? , good grip is more important for me than rolling resistance.
Thanks already for suggestions!
For those kind of conditions I have always prefered the WTB Velociraptor. They are not sand specific but will negotiate it real well. These tires work best in loose conditions anyway.

the Velo are great all around tires. I would also recommend the Panaracer FireXC. They have incredible grip yet are fairly light for full knobbies. They seemed to float over sand very well. The only conditions that they didn't do too well in was mud. Because of the closely spaced knobs, they clogged up pretty quickly. But if you don't ride in muddy conditions very often, I would highly recommend them.

Servus!
I have used Continental Verticals in sand with great success. I find that their width (26x2.3) float them nicely and the lugs are deep enough to get good bite. Anything wide will keep you from digging in too deeply and allow you to keep rolling.
I've used the Velociraptor in the sands of Moab with pretty good success. A friend has said tires with directional knobs (like the Velociraptor) give you less steering control in the sand, but I haven't verified this. In the sand, wider is better. I'm running a 2.4 WTB Motoraptor now and like it even better than the Velociraptor, but haven't tried this one in the sand.
I like the 2.4 Motoraptor up front and a Panaracer Pyro in the rear. I've used this set up in the sand in Florida Alabama and Louisiana.
