Touring - Need some help from Rivendell Atlantis owners

Do you own a 700c wheeled Atlantis? Cool, I need your help. I am going to be ordering a pair of wood fenders for my future Atlantis and I need to know the following; What is the inside measurement of the front fork at the bridge, and what is the inside measurement of the rear seatstays measured at the brake bridge.

I am hoping that I can get 2" wide fenders to fit the Atlantis.

I have the 56cm frame, which is sold with the 26" wheel. The fork accepts 55mm SKS fenders with room to spare. I am sure the 700c frame forks do the same.

I will measure it and respond when I get home tonight.

I should have said that I want to order 2" wide wood fenders for the bike. These are flat fenders with no curve.
I can also get 1 1/2" fenders, but I want to ride big fat tires, so the 2" wide fenders would be ideal.

that's the way, bud: always order 2"...look better and perform better...I'm putting a set on both my Atlantis and my X01 ...cody's also sending me a pair of that colour/scheme you have....that pic looks really nice.

The set that I have on my Rivendell Redwood work great. I have a dedicated rain bike, so on really wet, mucky days, the Rivendell stays in the garage. The coverage of the wood fenders are actually better than the SKS fenders I had on previously.

Oh man, it is amazing how many people comment on the wood fenders. Even non bike people comment on how much they like my bike. I think that the wood fenders and brooks saddle make even the most mudane bike look cool.

Okay I finally measured my Atlantis.
61 cm frame and the inside fork crown measurements and rear seat stay measurement is a bit over 6cm which is about 2 3/8 inches.

I had Berthoud stainless steel fenders, but I removed them when I put bigger cross tires on.

The wood fenders look cool, I may have to try them.

Thanks Skookum, I am going to be ordering a 66cm frame, but the measurements should be close to your 61. It is good to know that I will not have to take the dremel tool to such a nice set of fenders!

I have been pondering over these two bikes myself as well as a Rambouillet and, am leaning to the Atlantis merely because it can be purchased from Rivi all built up. I am not confident enough to build one up myself.

Also, will your Redwood take a 2" fender?

I can't really reply as I don't have a LHT but I do believe Surly
offers great value (the cross check was first bike after 20 yrs of not riding)...
....the only reason I went with an atlantis is because I got a smokin' deal on a brand new one, shipped, including albatross bars from an authorized riv retailer (US$1000 couldn't beat that in a million yrs)

The LHT is a great bike. It is much better than I could have imagined when I bought the bike. Building it up myself with each component picked to suit my riding style was a big plus. The only downside was that the LHT's biggest frame size is a 62cm. This frame size works great for my 20 mile commute, but is a bit small for any rides over 30 miles. The Atlantis comes in a 66cm frame size, which is the ideal frame size for me.

Making a choice between the Atlantis and the LHT is a tough one. If cost was not object, then the Atlantis wins hands down. Compared dollar for dollar, I have to give the nod to the LHT. I built up my LHT with top notch parts, front and rear racks and panniers, for the same cost of an Atlantis frame.

I went with 1 1/2" fenders on my Redwood. I had to do a little carving with the dremel tool around the brakes; they look awesome.

Thanks for the comments. Since Rivendell recommended a 64 Rambo based on my measurements, the 62 Surly may be a bit on the small size. I have a 62cm bike now and, it's borderline. This helps make my decision. The new Rambos (green) are due in fairly soon according to Rivi. Maybe around the first of March. I also need to look at the Atlantis again.
