Touring - Questions about a 2002 Jamis Aurora?

I've got an opportunity to buy one of these, and I like Jamis' bikes a lot, but as I look at the specs for this model year I see caliper brakes, not canti brakes, and the chain-stays on newer models are longer according to specs I've found online (not on Jamis' website) for this model. Chainstays for 2002 Aurora are listed at 41cm

Anybody have experience doing loaded touring with panniers on this bike? Any heel strike problems with panniers?

Also, is the 2002 aurora painted silver or is it one of those nice polished and clearcoated steel frames that Jamis has done on some models the last several years?

What's the difference between Reynolds 531 and 520?

I apologize in advance for not answering any of your specific questions, but I read somewhere that most people like the 2001 better than the 2002 because of the geometry of the frame. I'm going to consider an Aurora when my wallet fills enough to get a new bike.
