Commuting - Schwinn, Schwinn, Schwinn!!!

Sorry, I just have to spread the joy but today when I went on my almost daily ride to the bike shop I found an old Schwinn one speed for freel, as told to me by a very big sign that said "FREE". I brought it home, checked it out, and its in very good condition. A little bit of rust but it rides. Its a semi metalic dark green, with all of the original parts. Its a beauty, thats for sure. I figure I might as well rescue it from its doomed future on a Minnresota lawn over the winter. I just love the label that says "Schwinn Quality- Chicago. I almost fell off of my bike when I saw it. It practically screams go cruising with me. Plus it has these really long fenders that go around the weels. I just felt like spreading the joy, tell me what you "guys" think.

I smell a resto project! :D

I'm always looking for similar pricing on bikes and accessories. Not much luck though. Congrats!

I always say that old Schwinns are like Cadellacs They are a very smooth ride, but they take a lot of gas.

What model is it?

I'll have a picture on as soon as I can, but its a 1969 Schwinn Breeze. A glossy dark green, all of the original parts. Pretty nice ride. Today I replaced the chain and I got some of the rust off of it, after i took the "before" picture, and I also went for the first ride. I need to work on the wheels a bit, there a little funky, but it was nice to be able to cruise around the block on a bike like that. Cruising is the only way to ride. I'll have a road worthy Schwinn in no time. :cool: I'll keep you guys updated on the ride.

Yup, the Schwinn Breeze. It is a girl's middle-weight bike. Yours is probably from the 1960's. Does it have 1.75" X 26" wheels?

If you tell me the serial number, I can tell you the exact year.

They are mildy collectible with a value of about $75 to $125 depending on condition and your ability to find a buyer.

Your best bet is to enjoy it, as you have already discovered.

I have to tell you when I read your post I thought you'd found the old green Schwinn I'd seen in downtown Minneapolis, it was without wheels. I'd seen it from the road, and went back the next day to claim it, it was gone.
Great riding in Wayzata. Used to live in Orono, road the Luce line a lot, still get out there for a century or two.

I found this bike on a lawn 6 blocks from my house on my way to the bike shop. I'm too lazy to make two trips so I "strapped it to my back" sorta. It sure is a sweet bike. The tubes even hold air... amazin. The wheels look as though they havent been changed since the late 60s but I was brave enough to give it a test run(the best way to analyze it) The chain was replaced, and the tires/tubes should be replaced. It has a wee bit of rust but the paint is in really good condition, the original green. It rides like a feather, but too bad its a womens bike. I'll either keep it and show off my feminine pride or soup it up for a lady friend, i'm not sure yet.

I'm a Schwinn fiend too. Now go and spend $200 fixing up your free bike.

700C rims are barely bigger, and will fit that frame. Nashbar has a Velocity Glider wheelset, if you want to go the 8 speed route.
