Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - HELMETCAM, Tour da Chicago stage 4 - WHO WANTS TO WEAR IT???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey y'all.
it's tristan. how are you?
I have all the gear for the BIKEFORUMSHELMETCAN(tm) and I'm looking for an able-bodied rider to wear it. I *don't think* I'm going to race the Tour on Sunday (though I will be there, don't fret).
So, who wants to wear it, if I don't race???
I'll need to meet you sometime on Saturday to hook you all up, as I may be waiting for you at the first checkpoint in Evanston.
Endless love,
Tristan

when for the prebowl?
yeah, whoever's going to wear it should be
a)pretty fast
and
b)stay behind a couple of riders (at least until near the end, then SPRINT, BABY!) so that there is actually something to see.
Bonus points if you get hit by a car, or hit a pedestrian while you're riding-n-filming.

whoever is wearing it should remember to turn it off if they have to take a piss.

I was thinking of riding the route on Saturday, and would be down to incorporate bowling, but Waveland is really expensive for some reason. Diversey Rock n' Bowl and Fireside Bowl are more economical.

SR is ideal. He stays in the front pack and consistently finishes in the top 10. IDEAL.
not to inflate his ego.

I'll call him and see if he wants to wear it.
If he does, I'm feeding him a huge indian food dinner the night before, just to make things interesting.

I can't do a prebowl/pre-ride saturday before 5pm, any other time would be cool. Waveland is cool because we could go at any arbitrary time of day, I don't know when fireside lanes is open.
What is the nearest trainstop to to the start of the race? I am going to be in a time crunch in a major way on sunday.

ra ba == row boat? race bike? rear bi-differential transaxle?
I turn 21 on feb 28th. There will be a bar crawl in my honor. I will start a thread very soon. March 2 or 3 will be the night, what do you think?

You are building it? Good luck, deraillers seem complicated, I have forgotten how those things go together ;-). Hope to see that when you have it together.

efarrar

logan square. 2145 N Humoldt.
then to Unicorn Cafe in Evanston, then to waveland bowl, then back to the start.
It is a really boring route IMO, it is 99% western ave.

Suicide. Well, maybe less so at that hour, but running lights on Western takes balls.

western? that's not the route I had planned at all. too many major intersections.

on the way north, i think kedzie is a good choice, but on the way down i could see going down western super fast
Western's sketch all the way, for the most part. People open up their cars and go balls out (I know this because I have friends who do it, which sort of sucks). There's something about Western and two people I know have died on Western (one was a biker, one was not and recently, Isai Medina, the infamous rat bike 50-year old fella got killed on Western). Western creeps me out. It's like a weird dividing line that runs down the length of the city.

yeah, western can be really dodgy - but I love that street and I love the hell out of riding on it. for this particular race, I'm almost cetain there is a better, faster route.
