Does anyone have a source for the older shoes and cleats that work with toe-clip and strap style pedals? Particularly the Shimano 600 pedals.

Thanks,
Tim.

I have been having good luck with rubber-soled cycling shoes, simply leaving the break-out cleat attachment flap in place. They work almost as well as those wonderful old Avocet touring shoes, which had steel shanks and transverse grooves on the soles.

There is a site that sells cleats for strap/clip system. They bolt onto the bottom of a normal SPD shoe. I remember they were made out of a blue plastic. I can't remember the link for the life of me though. Search the forums, and you can probably find it.

Looks like my last pair of Avocets are getting ready for the trash heap!
Specialized, New Balance, Nike and Performance sold a similar style 'touring' or mt. bike shoe with cleat-like grooves. These are really getting hard to come by!

I'm so glad I still have my old Detto's. You occasionaly see them on EBAY.

I have one bike with old Shimano 600's (my nice weather commuter) and another with Suntour Superbe Pros (GREAT pedals on my foul weather/retro ride road bike).

... and I still have a pair of Bata Bikers that I sometimes use.

You could be cheap like me, and strap in tight on a pair of indoor soccer shoes that have a tongue flap for the shoelaces. (That is when I'm not cheating and using clipless). :o

I have a like new size 13 pair of those Avocet shoes. I think they are grey and light blue. They are to big for me, anyone want em?

I've got about one more season left in my Avocet 30's. I've never been able to find a better Touring shoe.

I'm interested in those size 13 avocets. My old ones are about finished. Perfect size.

Do a search on eBuy for Eurasia cycling shoes. They come with some cheapo cleats that work and you can use the cleats from Yellow Jersey. I have a pair and plan to order another. For $15, it is hard to go wrong.
