I havent seen too much about this on the board.I thought the pro tour was a good idea.It seems the grand tours do not want to play ball.
What is the relationship between the pro riders and the uci. ? In pro cycling this month they seem to be in full support, going so far as mentioning a boycott of the grand tours... wow.
What is the real deal here.Obviously its about control and power...who and how do you guys favour ?

I feel that this is going to diminish both sides, much like the CART/IRL wars have all but killed open wheel racing here in the states. I'd hate to see the Tour go the way of the Indy 500 and become a shadow of what it once was. With pro tour teams supporting the UCI on this issue that scenario isn't to far out of the picture.

The only rider who seemed to understand and ride for the Pro Tour title was the guy who won it. Danilo DiLuca.
Heck, Armstrong finished way high on the Pro Tour and he only raced a few times all season! How is that a Tour?
DiLuca has stated his desire to go for the overall Giro win this year and may have to sacrifice some of the races that helped him win the Pro Tour.
The Pro Tour won't work if the big riders don't show up at all the events. Plus, the points system is too screwy on how it doles out the points.
It works for the team classification because each team in the Pro Tour shows up at all events. Hence, I think the determination that CSC was the strongest team is a good indicator.
The UCI has already changed some things, like the points for stage wins. But it will take a while for them to get it right, I think.
OTOH, how can a person who wins ONE race be called World Champion?!

Yeah, that's a bit dodgy....
.... Though I don't think you can argue against Boonen wearing the stripes this year. He had a monster 2005 and is off to a speedy 2006 (Tour of Qatar domination).
