View Full Version : Anybody ever use a Nashbar Recumbent Chain?

Nashbar sells a 9-speed recumbent chain (manufactured by KMC) for about $15. It has a quick link feature, too. The price is right, and since timing chains aren't too critical, I'm thinking I'll give it a try when my current chain wears out. My 'Dale came with a 9-speed SRAM chain, and that's working just fine, but some day it will need replacing. Any thoughts? Any experience with this chain? OHB

Depending how l-o-n-g the chain is . . . you may have to splice a couple chains to be the required length of the crossover. But yes, KMC makes a decent chain and as you say for the crossover, it does not make a heck of a lot of difference.
You should be able to get 10,000+ miles out of a decent timing chain.
Have gotten as much as 20,000 miles out of a timing chain in the 'old days.'

Thanks, the chain is long, very long. It's for recumbents, so there may even be enough for two timing chains--certainly one!

I've used it as the timing chain on my spicer ti road tandem. I use KMC chains a lot--usually from nashbar--on a number of bikes I've built over the past couple years.

No problems. the timing chain on the tandem works just fine.

Did not know how long of chain they have for sale as there are short and long wheelbased 'bents. But at 15 bucks . . . go for it!

I just got 3 months out of a chain set (both) @ 100 miles a week. Sram chains. Change them at about +3/32".

Yipeees! Only 1,200 miles out of a set of chains?
Crossover chain is still on @ 10,000 miles.

We ride alot off the saddle, i.e. most every climb & shifting while up, almost never use the middle or small chainrings, go hard all the time 95+ rpms. Does seem a short life for a chain but I change them sooner rather than later: saves on buying chainnrings/ cassettes which cost alot more.
