I recently purchase a used Bianchi Axis and am trying to determine the date. It has a cro-moly frame, Suntour XCD and Sakae components. I'm guessing early '90's. Anyone know?

I'm trying to figure out the date of mine, too. I bought just the frameset, and it's lugged steel, sloping top tube, and a few odd braze-ons that I don't know what they're for. The guy I bought it from said late 80's.
Does your frame have lugs?
I've searched the internet for info and have come up empty handed.

Unfortunately, the bike archive only goes back to 2001, at which time the Axis was aluminum.

I think the deal is this-
The Bianchi Axis was introduced in ~ 2000 as an aluminum bike (I had a 2000- it was an irridesecnet blue color before there went to various combinations of black and/or celeste).
Prior to the Bianchi sold a steel frameset (not a built bike). So the components won't necessarrily tell you much about when the frame was built. I got one as a warrantee replacement after they had offically stopped selling the steel frames. It's called the Chromo-lite reparto course, not the Axis.
Recent versions such as mine are TIG welded. earlier models are lugged. so, that would be the firtst hint at how old your frame is. I don't know when they changed.

I got a '90 Axis frame and fork last Nov. It is lugged Bianchi "Superset II" tubing (same as my '87 Eros) which I understand is the same as Tange Prestige. The color was a horrible pink/white combo (yes, same as my Eros!) but I painted it Bianchi Celeste!
It was owned by a bike shop owner here in the area who carries Bianchi and it was equipped with Campy Super Record components which unfortunately I don't have. It also had Suntour Barcon shifters and a Suntour top pull ft. derailler (I still got the derailler but I'm not using that!).
