Touring - South of Spain

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Im planning on touring the south of spain this summer from sevilla to bracelona. Have any of you toured the south of spain?
I too am really intertested in the south of Spain, but I'm hoping to do it in winter as a break from the cold and snow.
I have heard good things about the Michelin Road maps of southern Spain. 1 : 400,000 scaleI caN imagine it'll be pretty hot in the summer!

A few summers ago I was in Seville and Granada and remember 45 C. temperatures. Be careful out there!

I am planning to tour spain during April-Mai (and a lot more during the following months). I got the 1:400,000 map of spain by Michelin. Though its nice for overall planning, I think it doesn't show enough little roads and villages, mostly major roads/highways.
For bike touring I think 1:250,000 is better (but takes more map if you are planning long distance as I am.
I will probably buy the detailed maps along the way

I did a tour of Andalucia with the non-profit Bicycle Adventure Club (bicycleadventureclub.org) in April 1995. I generally managed to get to our day's destination by 1 pm, have lunch and avoid the afternoon heat, only venturing out around 6pm or later. The major sights we visited were Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Ronda (one of the "white villages"). i'd expect it to be hot like in the US southwest during the summer. Overall the roads were in pretty good shape where they weren't being worked on, but the cars were not particularly bike-friendly. On the coast, between Granada and Nerja, we went through a couple of tunnels: one was well-lit, the other was pitch black and had storm grates positioned just right to catch bicycle wheels.

Hi I'm also planning to start from Lisbon Portugal towards France through Southern Spain. I think Southern Spain will be too hot During summer. I previoussly did the Camino De Santiago in Norther Spain twice, both trips in June-July and the afternoons were burning hot 35-40 C. SO I imagine it most be even hotter down south
Touring south or central Spain ain July/August you should be VERY CAREFUL with temperatures, especially in the Guadalquivir Valley (Sevilla, Cordoba). Note too that Spain is not a flat country, there are a lot of hills and mountains. With 35-40 ºC temperatures, a short climbing will be very hard.
You can check www.viasverdes.com for old railways converted into bicycle paths.
Touring from Sevilla to Barcelona, I would suggest to avoid the coast and take seconday roads. Great landscapes and villages to see.
Feel free to contact me if you need additional information.
