I had a terrible problem with mud/clay build up on my shoes and pedals today during a cyclocross race. I had only 2 laps out of the 15 that I was able to clip both feet in and ended up being lapped by the lead group that I normally can ride with. I am using Time ATAC pedals and Diadora Chili shoes.
The cleats are mounted pretty much where the ball of my foot is and centered in the slot area between the sole lugs.
I was wondering if I should trim the lugs away to make a larger area so that maybe this type of mud would have more room to be pushed out of or
would this just give the mud a better hold. Or does anyone have a recommendation for better shoes for cross racing.
