I am looking for upper body armour that will protect the shoulders. 661 Straight Jacket seems like exactly like what I am looking for except for sizing. I haven't tried it on but I don't believe a 1 size fits all will take in account a 6'5 250 pnd guy.

Any suggestions? I am not looking for absolute protection just something light and thin to protect against unfortunate endos.

The best fit by far will be moto-x style armor. It is a bit bulky but Moose, Fox, Thor, and some other companies make armor specificly for larger riders.
The armor made for the bicycle industry(sixsixone, bombshell, fox and even dianese), will all be to small for you. The sixsixone shoulder protection will not fully cover your shoulder and the edges of it will bruse the hell out of you if you go down hard.
Also, being 6'5" it will be very short and if you have a chest of any bigger then around 46" it will be tight and more prone to tearing.
Same gose for the other upper body armor as well.

FOX FOR XL RIDERS (http://shop.foxracing.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=MX&category%5Fname=Roost%2DD%2DFlector%5F31&product%5Fid=06002)

This is the one that Fox makes for bigger riders.

Wow...that is a bit more hardcore than I wanted but too much protection is better than none. Especially considering the type of riding I want to try next year. Yes, the 661 must fit small. I have a 50" chest and my shoulders are pretty wide. That was my biggest concern.

I was also able to find this

http://www.bombshellparts.com/products/07body_armor/07body_armor.html

Which (I will write them to confirm) in the xl should fit me.

I had this same problem playing football. Most of the shoulder pads left for second line was too narrow for my shoulder and wen to the bottom of my clavicle instead of partially covering my abs.

I really like the expandable shoulders on the fox. Hmmm...thank you. More than one choice is always better than one. Cheers. :)

Well I ended up writing a letter of complaint to a few of the top 'amour' companies. It seems if you don't get the full upper body armour (arms, full torso protection) they don't come in sizes for people like me. Assuming equipment already fits small this is disapointing. To the point where 661 has adult sizes in everything. One size fits all mentality is just plain brutal.

Kudos to fox and bombshell (although they only go to L) for making reasonably priced chest / shoulder armour for bigger than small sized people.

Hey Mael.,
Which Bombshell are you looking at? I have the Ultra. That is what I used for this past season. It is a tight fit. I had to have the zippers for the back protector moved and the shoulders are not designed for some one with large shoulders. It is very uncomfortable. Needles to say it is now my wifes armor.
If you can try it on i would highly suggest doing so. My chest is 54" so it may just fit you. Also, if your waist is any bigger then 36"(legit) the belt will be a very very tight fit. My waist is 37" and it squeezes enough that you can not get a good deep breath if you need to.

b2 protector. It is all velcro and doesn't really go down too far. I am hoping it will work for me. I have written them with my measurements hoping that they can clear some things up.

I think I may be stuck with the fox though which is kind of a bummer as I am not that hardcore yet. That kind of protection isn't really needed when all I am looking for is a 'safety blanket' to get me to do bigger drops and get some more speed. :)

In reality wide receiver football pads are close to what I want without the plastic casing but no one makes shoulder protectors without chest included :)

Hey Maelstrom, I read this and thought about you. Didja ever get some armor? Don't know about sizing on this, but write them an e-mail and ask. http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=39771

In the end I found a few companies that make full upper body suits. They are a great company because I can send them my measurements and they will custom make the suit.

www.hootsgear.com also makes armour that fits (I actually got to try it on) as well as EVS. I would have preferred chest and shoulder only but I can't be too picky.

As for do I have it. No. I waiting until after xmas when I have some cash :)

This may not work for big dudes like us Mael, but I saw this awhile back and finally found it again this morning. There's a review here (http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=39771) and the page of the company is here (http://www.rockgardn.com/).
