Touring - Koga Miyata World Traveler

I am researching bikes and the Koga Miyata World Traveler Touring bilke has captured my attention. Are there any KOGA MITATA owners reading this that would like to share their insites to what appears to me as a very nice looking/tough bike?

Just be aware that Tilman is sponsored by Koga so obviously will be far from objective. He is also sponsored by Continental and seems not to be aware that the Schwalbe Marathon XR is a far better tyre than any Continental tyres for dirt road touring!

I looked at the Koga bikes a while back, but concluded that they're overpriced. I have yet to meet anyone that owns one - I've met plenty of Dutch and German cyclists, but none on Kogas.

They are however one of only a few true off-the-peg expedition ready bikes. So perfect if you're off on a spur of the moment expedition next week.

You could have a Thorn Raven Tour with Rohloff for a similar price to the World Traveller, and there's little doubt in my eyes which is the better bike.

I bought a Kogo Miyata World Traveller frame off of ebay and built myself a commuter out of it. This frame is a few years old...butted chromoly steel, 700cc wheels. It's beautiful, heavy and extremely stable. I'm turning it into a true touring bike this summer, as it is way overbuilt for a commuter.

Rides like a tank/frieght train, but very comfy.

Last year, when I was in Italy, I saw a couple who were both riding the bike you're asking about on a world tour. They seemed pretty happy with their bikes. It may not be a big deal, but i believe they are now made of aluminum--lighter but more prolematic if the frame breaks. In some ways, lala may have been lucky to get the last of the steel frames.

Koga Miyata offers a full lineup of well outfitted touring bicycles in both aluminum and steel. Some of the bikes are completely tour ready off the sales floor, even including 3 stainless water bottles, a generator, pump, etc....

Very true. We have a Thorn Tandem and would go for one of their bikes over the Koyo. Thorn are excellent to deal with over the net too.

I toured on a Koga Myata untill I upgraded to a custom build bike. The koga was great, its a nicely finished, of the shelf touring bike. Ofcourse you could do better if you are able to buy a frame and build it up yourself with components you like.
