Hey there guys, I've been trying to figure out a way to secure my bike(the pieces are in the mail). A big trucker chain could work though would be heavy, I could buy a few lock cables and string em together. What do you think about cutting a hole in my frame and one in the fork to use a deadbolt. The arm would push through the hole in the fork and make it impossible for anyone to steer the bike. I could then just use my wedgie's lock to hold the frame to something. I've had lots of locks cut though, and this way those souless bastards who steal bikes would cut it but couldn't steer it away. Whatdya think?

Surgery seems a bit drastic. I wouldn't want to drill out my bent just to thwart a thief. Can't you just take off the front wheel instead? The thief couldn't steer that way either.

See, but around here, the thiefs(methaddicts) will steal anything they can get away on. If it will move for them, they'll take it. I figure if the wheel is deadbolted, they can try all they might but it won't get them anywhere. Is there such a thing as a locking hub for a bike?

If that is the case, then a couple of big ulocks locking the wheels to the frame will get the job done without doing anything to the frame.

Yeah, drilling holes in your frame would probably weaken it to a point where the thing would collapse under your weight when you're riding it. Just get a small, sturdy u-lock like the Onguard (http://www.onguardlock.com/) Pitbull or Boxer series Disc locks.

I don't know if someone mentioned this or not, but if you have disc brakes, slide a padlock through one of the holes. It'll catch at the caliper and not allow the wheel to move, unless you have a QR, then they'll just pull the wheel out.

They make special mini-ulocks for just that purpose.
