Greetings all,

I recently got back into riding after a 20 year layoff (did some BMX racing back in the day nothing big) and am now riding for fun and exercise. I have 2 bikes a 90's Balance 24' "Killer Bee" that I built and a 04 SE racing OM flyer. I'm 6 foot 210 so the 20 inchers of old (FMF's) won't do. I'm not intrested in doing tricks or racing or jumping (besides Bunny Hop's and wheelies) but I do want to get more top end speed out of these 2 bikes. My gear ratio on the OM is 44 14 (not stock) and I have replaced the tires with 26 x 1.25 slicks but the bike still seems slow to me. I ride in traffic in a big city and I'm starting to think that to achieve my goal I might have to switch to a :gasp: Road bike. At hart I'm a BMX'er but I want to go fast. I have been toying with the idea of building a 29' bmx bike in an attempt to go faster and for a better fit on longer trips but I'm beginning to think BMX geometry was no made for top end speed.
Any thoughts/suggestions on this matter for an old BMX'er?

I'm just hoping that your 29" BMX bike is some sort of typo. If you want to go that fast, just get a road bike and utilize those gears.

You could always build up a single-speed 29'er mountain bike. A lot of people ride those with rigid forks, and love them. I don't like big bikes very much, even my 17" frame Hardrock seems big and I'm 5'11.. 24" cruiser is good, I wish I had a 20" now though.. But anyway, if 29" feels right for you, why not..

And there's no way a 29'er could ever be called a BMX bike.

Tell that to Scot at Kappa he makes a 29' BMX frame and matching fork not to mention countless other independent frame fabricators.

Also the B.M. Flyer made by SE racing is close to BMX geometry when compared to bikes like the Mongoose Kos cruiser.
just add BMX bars.
