Commuting - City Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been communting for a long time. I'm looking at another bike. An "on sale" Rocky Mountain RC-50. Does anybody know anything about how this bike would hold up. It's reasonably priced and the components are decent. I almost get the feeling that this company is already in trouble and going out of business. Thank you for your time.

Good rule to follow..........
"If in doubt...don't"
I think that applies here very well since you are unsure of the bike company that
makes this brand.

Where are you seeing it at? How's it built up? Durability means good wheels and decent components and an OK headset. What kind of conditions do you ride in? Do you need fenders/racks? I don't see rack mounts on the ones I saw online.

That's the problem. It's at a sports department store rather than a bike shop. I've been communting with a backpack for 40yrs, so I see no need for racks or fenders. In my opinion, when bike manufacturers want to make their product less expensive, they usually save costs in the wheels. This bike has Shimano Alivio hubs and Alex DA16 rims, both inexpensive components in my opinion. I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with this company. I had a Trek 8500 for communting but, alas, it now belongs to the thief who stole it.
