At 8am I was promptly woken up by Rachel. She wanted a little playtime so I got the ‘kong’, a rubber ball she likes to play fetch with, and took her out to the back yard. After a few tosses, I came back in and crashed for another hour of sleep. I woke up again to a phone call for Eli. He was in Seattle and told me he’d be back tomorrow. I thanked him for being so hospitable, even when absent. I messed around on the computer and got some stuff to eat out of the fridge, made myself a nice latte and then met Pete, a neighbor friend of Eli who came over to take Rachel for a run with his 3 other dogs. Pete is a high school football coach and substitute teacher at the high school. When he came back, we arranged to hang out a bit. We had a visit with the bong and then got out in the yard for a nice hacky sack session. Before Pete left for practice, he invited me to come visit him in town before he and his team ate a nice meal to prepare for tomorrow’s game. I went out with Rachel and took my Frisbee and her kong for some playtime. She exhibited some non-stop energy when it came to fetch or catch. We got on a trail down by the Columbia River and enjoyed a nice scenic walk along the water. I saw and heard many large sea lions basking up on the rocks and docks close to land. I threw the Frisbee around with Rachel, who caught it perfectly when it was thrown well. After a while, I decided it was way too beautiful out here to not have a camera with me so I returned home to get mine. I relaxed for an hour or so and let Rachel rest as well before going out for a walk. Rachel and I returned to the outdoors, this time I was on foot. I stopped by and took some photos of the sea lions barking and basking and then continued on towards town taking more photos by the riverside and eventually making it to the football field where the ‘Fisherman’ were still on the field practicing. I tossed around the Frisbee with Rachel until they finished practice and then met up with Pete. We munched on the team dinner and I talked with a few kids from the team. Rachel found plenty of people to throw the Frisbee or kong for her once I tired out. After dinner, Pete and I and his dogs went out to a spot near the water to chill out and have a nice smoke. When I got back home, Eli called and said he was coming home tonight rather than tomorrow. So it looks like we’ll be able to spend some more time visiting than I thought. Later in the evening, Eli arrived with his friend Sara and we hung out for a while with Pete as well. Eli was getting ready to move in a few days. He’s headed down towards San Francisco to work, which should be a nice change according to him. We finished off the night with a good smoke and some good tunes before crashing out. (3 miles)

Peace

Dave
