Commuting - Miyata Commuter Bikes - LBS liquidating all

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

FYI
I just came back from an LBS that I don't frequent very much. They have a complete inventory of Koga Miyata Commuter and Touring specific bikes. Apparently, they bet on high oil prices getting the wealthy locals out of their BMW and Lexus SUVs. I asked how they were moving and he said "No one wants them ... at this point we are temporary storage for another dealer." He didn't even bother asking me if I wanted to try one and I was the only person in the store. It's a shame that commuting isn't catching on around here.

These guys took a beating on these things. It's a very small shop run by two brothers. I didn't count but I'd estimate they had at least 15 of these bikes. All have generator hubs, enclosed chains and racks. Some are Nexus 8 and others have the standard derailer setups. I believe they all come with stainless water bottles. Most have thick leather hand grips ... very nice. If anyone is window shopping for a commuter they should give this place a ring. The markdowns were huge.

They're in New Hope, Pa. The website shows the list price but you should call for the discounted price. The Metro going for $1300 on the website was marked down to $879 on the floor!

PS: These guys don't know me by name so I'm not shilling for my buddies. I don't benefit from their sales in any way. It may even be better if you don't mention this posting at all when talking to them.

How much are they selling the Miyatas with the Nexus 8 Hubs?

Give them a call ... I don't trust my memory on the Nexus model.

Those are nice bikes, and an investment for the shop, I'm sure. Too bad everyone wants to be like Lance and buy overpriced Trek road bikes to ride for a month in the summer and then let rot in the basement.

I hope they sell them, and survive as an LBS. It's a tough business, particularly through the winter months.

Wow, the racing bikes in the Koga Miyata section look pretty nice, and they're marked down a lot.

Hey Josh, you could make one winter-worthy so you could ride in these conditions.

Ha ha... pretty funny... but seriously, not a bad idea!

I did actually ride in this morning, and it was a little dicey in places (I actually bailed in Crystal City to a road route that I took the rest of the way to Old Town), but I made it! I'm going to try and use the MV Trail the whole way (or at least the VA portion...) this evening.

Wow, those commuter bikes are ugly!

I like the Koga Miyata touring and race bikes though. I would prefer a steel frame for a tourer/commuter though.
