I've been so healthy all winter until today, caught a cold last night and that has kept me from riding outdoors this PM. So far I've injested lots of zinc, Vitamin C, Zicam, and gargled with warm salt water. I even had hot chicken soup for lunch and a cup of tea with honey later. Is there anything else I can do???

Add a vitamin A to that list everyday and you will get better much faster. :p

A shot of whiskey every 15 minutes till no pain is felt or you feel better
Salsa, curry, etc.
As long as your body temperature is normal or below, go for a long walk or easy-paced bike ride.

It's too late now, but I would recommend echinacea in the fall before winter to help boost the immune system. Try making some tea out of eucalyptus oil. It will clear your sinuses right up. At least you'll be able to breath
Get out and ride (by yourself) and blow it out!!!!!

I had a cold last week but
was determined to not let
it get me down. I thought
it might be an alergy to
my dog since she has been
in visiting lately during TV
and popcorn time, so I
bought some Claritin
and went for a 15 miler.
Felt much better after
I got back and rode through
the cold all week.
Throat lozenges help tho.

I had the cold and it kept me off the bike for 25 days. Two visits to the doctor and then finally 10 days of antibiotics. Sinusitis with a cough that takes your breath away.
The antibiotics, Biaxin, made my mouth dry and tongue discolored and swolen. Everything tasted bad. But I kept up with the anitioxidents: wheat grass and my usual concoction of Acai, bananas, yogurt, oranges, ground flaxseed. Looking back, the best thing was complete rest early on.

Many years ago I woke up the morning of a ride and felt terrible. Took one of the Propriety brands of cold/ flu/ catarh aids and did the ride. 4 hours later it wore off and took another, and so on for 12 hours. When the pills wore off at 8pm I felt terrible and only a few miles to go, but it was wet muddy rough and downhill. I don't know what is in the pills- but it worked and the trade name in the UK is Mucron.
The bottle of scotch sounds better though- Doesn't help the cold but you don't care.

The same old cure; wait one week or 7 days, whichever comes first. In the mean time, take whatever makes you feel better, ie. cough syrup (which contains alcohol), or alcohol (which is cheaper). OHB

+1 Whiskey AND sex!
Off Topic. I spent a week in Cushing one weekend in October 1999. I'd like to spend some vacation time in that part of the country sometime. Last time was for work in Stillwater.

Last time i started getting sick, an 'herbal' friend recommended Vitamin A, Vitamin B12 and Zinc. I threw in a multi vitamin just for good measure. I took one of each each morning and evening, and the cold went away in a day or two. Had to eat a lot to keep my stomach from getting too upset, but it seemed to work.

Of course, Whiskey and Honey isn't bad...
Hope you feel better soon :)

I would do what you're doing but I would add lots of sleep and decongestants. When I had a travel job, I had to learn how to treat a cold before it did any real damage. What I found out is, the actual virus is defeated in 24 to 48 hours. But the toxins left behind can still cause lots of problems. Decongestants used properly can help to drain your sinuses expediting your recovery. Hot showers help to drain the sinuses too. And I don't drink any liquor or beer etc. Sorry about the last item I know some will disagree.

Get a little rest.

Miso soup really releaves my symptoms. I know it sounds funny, but maybe it's the same way that chicken soup works.

Sinus cold or sore throat? I can stop sore throats in their tracks - gargle with H2O2 and then put a heating pad on the throat & chest. Won't do a darn thing for the sinuses, though. I'm partial to Vicks VapoRub for that (the Vicks isn't effective, but it reminds me of what my mum used to do when I was a kid).
As my doctor says, with treatment, a cold takes a week or two to get over. Without treatment, a cold takes a week or two to get over. :p

Hot bath before bed, drink of hot lemon, honey and whisky, two aspirin.
That might cut the recovery time to six days from seven.

Everyone has their own cure. I don't get colds probably because I have a healthy immune system. I bike everyday, eat my anti-oxidants and am careful with hygiene (frequent hand washing, alcohol wipes and gel).
Sometimes I feel a cold coming on. For me it is usually a funny feeling in my head, dryness or slight soreness in the top of my mouth or throat. I IMMEDIATELY (sorry for shouting but this is important), place several drops of wild oil of oregano under my tongue. After I can't stand the sensation anymore I swallow and flush my mouth with organic orange juice.
I follow that with zinc lozenges. Not those candy store ones, but the real thing.
I really believe that the best way to avoid colds is to be healthy and take precautions. If you let your guard down, carry the antidote with you at all times.

Take a couple days off (riding), do some hardcore resting along with teraflu & a few shots of XTABENTUN (liquour) let your body do the rest, you'll feel better.
