Hi all,
I live in Oregon, and me & some friends are planning to do a week long bike ride in Wisconsin (http://www.grabaawr.com/), but I'm wondering whether I'll have to take my wedgie instead of the bent due to difficulty shipping it there. Anyone deal with this, or have advice on what might work for me to take my bent?
Thanks,
MikeB

we shipped a baccheta (sp?) out of our shop last month. had to strip it down to almost the frame, then packed it into two boxes...one for the frame, and one for wheels and components. the frame box was a pain, you might hit a shop for one, i always try to keep one or two recumbent frame boxes around for that purpose.

Check www.crateworks.com for some bicycle shipping crates. They have one specific for 'bents, the last time I checked.

This probably won't help you at this point, but perhaps you should consider getting (or building) a "splittable" recumbent. The newest version of my bike, atomBLASTER (http://www.geocities.com/atombikes) ,is able to be broken down for travel. It will fit into an airline "regulation" size suitcase, depending on which seat is used.

My Rotator Pursuit has been back and forth 1800 mi to the maker twice, using the box the maker cobbled up from two Cannondale boxes. UPS both times with no damage to bike or box. Probably charmed considering UPS reputation. Last time was 3yrs ago for $45. I don't think bents are disassembled all that much more than DF bikes for shipping. A Crateworks box sounds like good insurance and Fed Ex might be a better choice than UPS.
