Anyone know much about Nishiki? My buddy just got one not long ago. It seems like a nice bike. He actually purchased the frame, and built it all XTR. It is light and responsive. What are your thoughts on this company?

Last time I owned one it I was told it was norco that made the frame. They are pretty good and reasonably priced. I still have the frame and am considering making a ss out of it.

I had a Nishiki a while ago. Back then, Nishiki seemed a much more interesting company. I don't know about today. Nishiki used to be (maybe they still are) owned by Derby Cycles, the same people who owned Haro. Last time I looked, they had rather mediocre looking bikes and were only really selling in Europe.

My bike was a 1990 Ariel... Cunningham (of Mantis fame) designed frame with the elevated stays... steel version of the "ground breaking" Alien which was itself a mass produced design based on the XCR. It was Shimano DeoreDX equipped and I later upgraded it to DeoreXT. No suspension back then. It rode and tracked really nice. The welds were pretty good and the chainstays short so it climbed well. I could also fit some fairly large tyres on it at the time. I was running 26x2.25 at one point although I dropped back to 26x2.1 later. It weighed in around 25lbs which seems heavy for a hardnose/hardtail today but it was 4130 Tange chromoly (double-butted I think). The fork was excellent. I stupidly gave it to my brother when I went to a full-suspension bike thinking that I wouldn't ever need a hardtail. My brother left it out on his front porch where it got stolen. I miss that bike. I took great care of it for 10 years. Can you tell I'm bitter?
