He may need the slack in order to fold the bike.

It looks sleek.

The bike will only partially fold as the stem/steerer is not adjustable. I also think the chain would come off if the rear swing-arm was folded.

With that 67t ring and 14t cog (and Stlevios), that gives him 79 gear inches. Not sure about the black gaffer tape though.

Let's just say that that dude has a different set of aesthetics than i do,.. but i am sure it is a nice ride!

I think it's 97 gear inches, which is quite a lot. Probably mostly ridden in the flats. The black tape is usually either to "disguise" the bike to make it a little less likely to be stolen and/or to not scratch the frame when it is leaned and/or locked against something.

I don't think so, on both counts.

He is running Stelvios on ERTO 355 wheels which gives an approximate trye diameter of 16.5". This will not give 97 gear inches...

I also think that he posted a picture on the Birdy forum and said the tape was used for aesthetic reasons...

It's funny to see this bike discussed on the Fixed Gear forum, under the title 'Ugliest bike ever'. However, most responses to it were positive and said the bike looked like a lot of fun.

I think the chain's not tensioned because of the FS in the rear. I wonder what that feels like to ride?

chain slack is detrimental to the bike folding! There is already too much slack, this is the reason that a std. Birdy has a tensioner & a wire loop which follows the chainline when riding & takes up this slack when folding.
It states that the front ring is an eggring, but it appears circular or very close to circular, however, if it is an eggring then the slack would be taken up when the high points of the egg were reached and then re-slackened at the low points.
Different strokes for ...........etc.
My stolen Birdy also had a 67 tooth egg-ring (http://www.long-john.com/pagebirdy.htm) this will show you the effect of the egg-ring on the chain tension.
